An interesting item to consider for bass tournament anglers (and any other sports competitor for that matter) from Pete Robbins' blog on Gary Yamamoto's Inside Line:

"I don't fish against other anglers, I'm just competing against the fish."

While reading a recent article in Conde Nast Portfolio about the business endeavors of Tiger Woods, the following paragraph caught my eye:

I know I've said the same statement myself in the past... but I never really believed it completely. The point it - I often fish better whenever I fished against tougher competition AND I think it is also more productive to make an attempt to concentrate as much as possible on the things you can personally control.
