Yesterday at the Natural Resources Commission meeting in Lansing, science prevailed thanks to many, many persons who took the time to write in, and especially those who showed up to speak before the Commission on Commissioner Walters’ amendment to close bass fishing on the Inland Waterway and Black Lake from May 1 until the third Saturday in June.

Took the Ranger Z21 to Lake Orion this past Wednesday to fish with an old bass club buddy, Paul Wills.
We got a late start due to Stony Creek Impoudment being inaccessible. The Metropark lake is being lowered to make improvements. We tried to launch and couldn't float the boat. So off to Orion.
It was a pike-fest. I caught a couple pretty quick on a swim jig. Also had one swipe at it next to the boat. Paul probably caught about 7 or 8 pike on various lures. He said that he had never caught so many pike in that lake. He also lost a couple at the boat and was bitten off once.
I did catch a few bass. Not nearly as many as Dan Kimmel and I did at the end of July. (Did he write a report about that trip?😳) I think I caught 4. One was caught on a Berkley Power Worm.  Three bit a Case Plastics Green Pumpkin worm thingy rigged on a drop shot. 3 of the Largemouth were keeper-sized. One was about 13". We were fishing around the deep weed edges. In hindsight maybe we should have moved to shallower options including docks.

Good report.   I heard they were going to drop the water on Orion.  Any evidence of it??

Jay-MadWags

Nice report. Now I know to take that lake off my list. I hate catching pike loosing tackle that them.

I would leave that one on your list.  There are Huge Bass in there.   Took over 17 pounds to win a morning event there this summer.  The angler fished alone.   9.7 won our Tuesday morning 3 fish limit event.

Thanks for link to lake draw down. It shows why I didn't notice a difference in the water levels.
I like this lake. Interesting body of water with lots of bays and different areas to fish, accommodating many different styles and techniques. Dan and I fished there at the end of July. We did better then. Still had a fun day this time. I like catching fish and between Paul and me we only had one bite off.

Plus... you said 'hindsight' which is just a funny word... ;D

Help stop invasive spcies. Don't move fish between unconnected bodies of water. Clean, drain and dry your boat before launching on another water body.
