Move went fine. The new server is much faster. Which is good!

I'm planning on moving to a new server within the next 2 to 3 weeks. Just a little friendly warning as there might be a few hours of odd behavior when the process starts. I will try to have it done at night or weekend.

Yesterday at the Natural Resources Commission meeting in Lansing, science prevailed thanks to many, many persons who took the time to write in, and especially those who showed up to speak before the Commission on Commissioner Walters’ amendment to close bass fishing on the Inland Waterway and Black Lake from May 1 until the third Saturday in June.

I am thinking about adding another drop shot rod and reel to the arsenal (like I need another).  Any recommendations out there for a good set up that is not crazy expensive?  I would like a good all around set up for shallow to deep, large and smallmouth.  thanks

I drop shot 90% of the time.  I use a Powell 701 Light action,  Fast Tip.  Not sure they are made anymore.   Basically any rod close to 7 feet with a light action will do.  I use 8lb braid with a 10-12 Floro leader tied on with the Alberto knot.  They have caught everything from bass to musky.   You not going to horse the fish in so you have to play them out.

Big dreams

I have been using the Fenwick Elite Tech rod rods.  I have one 6'10" M and a 6'10" ML.  Both are great rods.  I just picked up the Revo Rocket and I like it.  The other reel I have is the Lew's Goldspin and that one didn't last long.  Hooked onto a carp and it burnt the drag up in that reel.  Whichever you get, try to make it as light as possible.

The Fenwick Elite Tech 6ft 10in ML is great... But the Abu Garcia Venerate MODEL # VNRTS702-4 is an awesome rod for the money... Try and find it on sale... $129 is full price.

Someone was a little rough on the package... better luck next one!

Help stop invasive spcies. Don't move fish between unconnected bodies of water. Clean, drain and dry your boat before launching on another water body.

It looks like the price went down today.... Maybe you can ask for a price adjustment too...  ;)

Tried out the new rod and reel yesterday and I really like it.  Super sensitive and nice action.  Ended up putting 8# stealth braid on and it cast like a dream.  Thanks Mike you the recommendation!

My go to finesse rod is any 7' St. Croix medium light rod.   Seems to handle just about any finesse technique quite well.  I have 3 of them.  One is set up for drop shot at all times.   The others are usually a Ned rig or something similar.

djkimmel

I'm beginning to wonder if you have to OWN a kayak to the Ned rig... or if you own a kayak you have to FISH the Ned rig...?!? There's hardly a conversation that runs between yakkers online that doesn't mention 'Ned rig.'

Last year, I could highly recommend it from shore, kayak, or boat.   This year, I have not tried kayak yet.

The best bang for your buck in my opinion is this combo at BPS:

http://www.basspro.com/Pflueger-Supreme/Bass-Pro-Shops-Johnny-Morris-CarbonLite-Spinning-Rod-and-Reel-Combo/product/2259692/

Very light, very sensitive combo's. I put them in the same ball park as a Crucial / Stradic balance / sensitivity / performance wise, but at half the price.

For Dropshot I will use any one of the 3 either the 7'2" M-F, the 6'9" ML-F, or 6'8" M-XF. Each have their time and place for me. Hard combo to beat at $191 - $201 US Taxes in.

I have the 6-8 carbon light with a smoke reel, love that set-up for dropshot. I really like the carbon light rods.

I have been giving that a go this year, just with a bait casting set up.

Waterfoul

As the best drop shot fisherman in Michigan (self proclaimed!!   8)  ) and a Shimano dealer, I LOVE my 7'2" Medium Cumara drop shot rod.  This rod paired with a Shimano Stadic Ci4 2500 or 3000 spinning reel is so light and sensitive you can feel the fish thinking about biting your bait.  You could also go with the Shimano Crucial in the same length and action as it is the "hand me down" Cumara blank from a couple years back.

My partner and I have had great luck with these set ups for the last 4 or 5 years.  We use Power Pro 15 lb yellow braid and 6-8' of 8 lb fluorocarbon leader (the diamerters are more similar than if you go with 8 lb braid... the braid can cut the floro easier at that lighter weight).
Addicted to fishing.  All the time, any species, anywhere!!  Especially in West Michigan!!!
