I posted a while back on where to go fishing for our "annual trip".  At first we were thinking about going around the muskegon area and hitting up lakes around there. Including Muskegon lake which is great.  After thinking about it for a while I thought what is a lake I have always wanted to fish since I was a child?  Many came to mind... then I thought St. Clair.  How I have never fished this is beyond me.  my question is this though.  With it being such a large lake is it true Smallies are everywhere here??  I'm not looking for people to give me their "hot spots" but I just don't wana end up going all the way there and driving around for the water for 3 days.... thinking of going in the beginning of JUne.  Is this going to be pre spawn still??? Should I start out at the mile roads?  If anyone could give me a little insight on this wonderful lake in our state that would be appreciated.  Like I said I'm not looking for all your "top secret" info.  Just some facts and opions on the lake.

One suggestion is tomcontact Wayne Carpenter and ask about purchasing maps of the western shore of St. Clair.  There are four.   Mile roads, metro beach, grosse point shores and windmill point.  I dont remember what he charges for them but it would be worth it. They would gve you good starting points including gps coordinates.
If you dont want to do that then just look for all the other boats.  There will be 100s of them.

Usually can't go wrong with the Mile Roads.  3-10 feet of water.

Not sure how far away you are.  The DK Open in May is a fun event for members of this site.  Guys bring there boats and take out other members without boats or guys wanting to learn the lake.

Getting some sort of help is a great idea, because LSC is a huge body of water and it can be difficult to find fish at first.  The beginning of June will likely be the tail end of the spawn, which means there will still be some fish spawning and most will be post spawn.

Late April to May is the best time to come to Clair for numbers and quality.  It's tricky though because you have to watch the weather and water clairity.  I would seriously consider coming to this years MadWags tournament on May 6th.

As far as where to fish, just look for the armada of boats. Also, book your hotel well in advance. This place gets bombarded with out-of-towners in the spring looking for the easy fishing.
