Fluorocarbon

I've tried several Fluorocarbons.

I tried Berkley Vanish when it first came out and it was junk.
I tried the Stren and like it.
I like the XPS stuff and will buy some more this year, or perhaps the Seaqar.
Last year I tried Evolution (not a fluoro) and the Halo.  Both were very sensitive, held their knots well, but I found them subject to excessive twisting and had to replace them too often for me.

I then tried the Transition Gold, and had a good experience with that.

I always use Palomar knots, and on fluoro, I always use super glue.

No one mentioned Silver Thread, and it doesn't really surprise me.  The stuff is almost impossible to find at any retail outlets.  And that's too bad because it really is good stuff.

I was always a Berkley guy before I stared using it three seasons ago and I can honestly say I'm not looking back.  It lays real nice on spinning gear and casts great.  I've even used it on a couple of baitcasters on worm rods - pitches great and holds up real well.

The only time it has ever broken on me is when I've neglected it for too long.  I'll push my luck and not re-tie after too many fish, or after it gets frayed a bit from the rocks and mussels - but that's my fault, not the line's.  And we're all guilty of that from time to time regardless of what line we're using.

Ditto on the Silver Thread, it is by-far the best all around line I have ever used.  5 years ago I only used Stren mono, then I found Silver Thread, now I use silver thread on about 70 % of my reels.  I still use some mono (always Stren) and I use some flouro (currently BPS.)

I am not convinced that fluorocarbon line is really any better than monofilament.  I have not tried any of it at all.  I have read a lot about it.  The articles I have read in Bassmaster, North American Fisherman, Bassin, and In-Fishermen have not convinced me to even try it.  I am also a believer in "If it ain't broke, don't fix it."  So because I have had great luck being "old school" by still using mono, I am going to stick with mono.  If a line is breaking consistantly at the knot, then why even use it.  I have to hand it to you Skip, you at least tried it.  I have not even been convinced to try it.  I look at these new lines a lot like when the braided stuff came out.  I tried that and was very disappointed in it.  So I never really used it for any length of time.  I am going to stick with mono.  Live by the sword...........die by the sword.

I used P-Line HALO a for a great deal of my fishing this year and really liked it for flipping largemouth in heavy milfoil, and smallies on the Great Lakes. I used fairly light line even in the milfoil. It seemed very strong and tough. Sensitive too. Soft.

I liked the P-Line Fluorocarbon too - 100% fluorocarbon. Didn't use it as much as HALO, but it seemed very similar - maybe more sensitive. I'll try it more this year for light line and sensitive need uses and see what I think after a more thorough test.

I used Evolution a little along too. Not sure which applications it is best for yet since I didn't use it a lot. I don't think it has any fluorocarbon. Might try it for flipping this year and other stronger line techniques.

I tried the CX Premium and CXX X-TRA Strong later in the year and wish I had tried it earlier. Both seemed like really good tough line for tough line needs while still being sensitive and soft. I think they may be really good all around line for crankbaits, spinnerbaits, flipping, Texas-rigging, Carolina-rigs...
