Erie/St.Clair Rise while Huron/Michigan Fall
« on: August 16, 2007, 11:39:42 AM »

Ran across this article today which includes published results from a study on Great Lakes water levels:
http://www.georgianbay.ca/env_water-level_special-article-2007.htm

In short the levels in St.Clair/Erie downstream to the Atlantic are rising while upstream of the St. Clair River the levels are falling.   Due to dredging activities  the St. Clair River is eroding at a faster rate than it should, creating a bigger "hole" for water flowing downstream - emptying the upstream lakes more quickly.

While it's an interesting read and doesn't mean much in the short term for anglers on the downstream lakes, some of the proposals from managing flow rates on the St. Clair could have ramifications on river fishing and habitat down the road.
