Move went fine. The new server is much faster. Which is good!

I'm planning on moving to a new server within the next 2 to 3 weeks. Just a little friendly warning as there might be a few hours of odd behavior when the process starts. I will try to have it done at night or weekend.

Yesterday at the Natural Resources Commission meeting in Lansing, science prevailed thanks to many, many persons who took the time to write in, and especially those who showed up to speak before the Commission on Commissioner Walters’ amendment to close bass fishing on the Inland Waterway and Black Lake from May 1 until the third Saturday in June.

First bass on a bed Saturday

I want rowboat fishing on a favorite, to be unnamed, shallow lake in Barry County Saturday, fighting with the wind a little during the day while getting some exercise. I did not have a temp gauge with me but I found the first largemouth bass of the year on a bed already!

This was taken with my cell phone since I limited the gear I took due to being in a small row boat. The bass is off the upper left corner of the bed - about a 2 pounder. There was another partially finished bed a few feet away and a bed with a small dink male and a decent female bass starting to get busy a couple feet past that bed.

I have seen bass on beds on this lake as early as the 1st week in April in 50 degree water in past years. They don't know the exact temps and conditions apparently. Maybe because they can't read ;D ?!

I only had oars and two small anchors to position myself as best I could in a strong breez, and with the algae already blooming quite a bite and gooey dead weeds left over from last year the fishing was slow and a little tough. I managed to whack one bigheaded swamp donkey largemouth bass off a middle of a bay scruffy weed edge on a flashy spinnerbait. Pretty sure the chunker about 3.5 pounds went for the blades not the skirt.

I took some time to relive the simple pleasure of bobber fishing too and landed a few decent gills and a couple medium-sized crappie. It was a quiet and peaceful day filled with lots of birds doing their spring thing all around the small bays and pockets I hunted for bass. I only saw a small number of cruisers though I found one bay full of excitable carp and a number of big schools of tiny panfish.

Help stop invasive spcies. Don't move fish between unconnected bodies of water. Clean, drain and dry your boat before launching on another water body.

I caught a small bass on a bed Monday evening, it was in 58 degree water on the river portion of a little chain over here in Jackson county. Saw the bed and threw a jig on it, sure enough fish on immediately, caught the action on the gopro, one day I will figure out how to edit and post vids.

Post them to YouTube and then just copy that video link onto the forum. Easy-peasy.
