Heading to Sturgeon Bay next weekend for some fishing. I have no idea on what to expect especially given that it seems that the ice just cleared out last week. If anyone has been there this early in the year and can point me in the right direction, it would be much appreciated.

Keep moving until you find a bunch of bass. Try real shallow, protected. If you don't find any in those places (re-check later in the day too) better get on the flats closer to the Green Bay end channel looking for them moving in. Depending on the wind direction the other end coming in from Lake Michigan can literally change 10 to 15 degrees overnight because Lake Michigan will be a lot colder.

We found some nice bass there one day in the narrows closer to Lake Michigan in mid-50 degree water only to find dead water with only a few trout, salmon, suckers and carp the next day with 41-43 degree water because the wind shifted out of the East. Instant change of plans.

The back end of Little Sturgeon Bay is another possibility. Maybe the middle parts of the bay depending upon the weather trend you hit over there. I haven't fished there enough in the spring to know how they move in and out of the rest of Green Bay real early. They seemed a lot slower to move in the farther North we checked. Farther South there's a lot of water to cover and I think they are out a ways right before they start moving in to the banks.

One thing is for sure, that place has been on fire the last few seasons. And I haven't been over there in years. Just seeing the weigh ins and talking to friends who've been fishing over there.

Anyone who wants to leave the awesome fishing all over Michigan to catch more smallies probably wants to go to Green Bay and Lake Simcoe. Those are the other monster waters right now.

Help stop invasive spcies. Don't move fish between unconnected bodies of water. Clean, drain and dry your boat before launching on another water body.
