Yesterday at the Natural Resources Commission meeting in Lansing, science prevailed thanks to many, many persons who took the time to write in, and especially those who showed up to speak before the Commission on Commissioner Walters’ amendment to close bass fishing on the Inland Waterway and Black Lake from May 1 until the third Saturday in June.

For me fishing has been slow.  I've been on a couple of inland lakes and each one has only offered Bass on the 5' drop offs next to deep water.  I"ve found nothing shallow.

Every fish I've caught so far is on a jerk bait.  Fishing slow.
Water temps have been mostly around 50-55* as of late.  Water is so cold that my suspending jerkbaits are slowing floating.

I think that fish are behind where they were a year ago.  Which was behind from the year before that.

Maybe if they keep falling behind they'll eventually catch up?
So much water.  So many lures.  So little time.

Fished Kent this morning.  Water was cold 50-53 degrees with about a foot visibility.  Caught fish on a chatter bait in the back bays.  Very little weed growth so far.  The warm up next week may help a little.

Going to St-clair next Thursday.  Should be some reports here or on LSCN next week.  Sounds like it is slow and muddy out there this week.

Might be the DK Largemouth open next week.

Sanford sucked tonight, water is still very muddy, visibility is under a foot, water temp is 50-53 degrees. Caught 4 largies this afternoon/evening, 1 on a jerkbait, 1 on a chatterbait, and two on a Texas rigged senko. First time I have picked up a spinning rod so far this year, depressing... Love fishing fast but Sanford is still way behind where it has been in years past.

Made my first trip out last night for walleye cause I knew the water on Charlvoix would just be too cold for any bass fishing.  Fish stacked like cordwood  on the graph , but not a single bite.   Water was 39 to 42 degrees.

Saturday on orchard in the morning and cass in the afternoon till blown off around 2.   Very slow day. Most water temps around 48. A few shallow bays at 52 or so.  Three of us fished hard and only connected with around 6 pike, 2-3 lm and 3-4 sm.

Sunday did a walleye charter on the DR in the morning.  6 guys, 40 walleyes, biggest around 6lb.  6-7 sm, and a dozen or so silver bass.. Got blown off at 12.  Very wet ride in.  My buddies weren't thinking and didn't bring their rain gear...  Needless to say a few shivers at the docs.

I fished a lake in southern Michigan on Saturday.  The water temperature was 54-56.  I caught 2 nice ones on a trap on a 7-8 foot weedline and 4 really nice ones on beds in a channel, water was 56 in the channel.  Spawners were 2lbs, 2 at 3.5lbs, and 1 was 5.5lbs (she was spawning with the 2 lber). We caught 2 spawning last weekend on Wawasee and the water was 56 degrees as well.  The majority of the bass were still out on the main lake

I went to white lake Saturday. Caught 2 bass and 4 pike. Everything was caught on a jerk bait. I was on a weed edge in about 7 fow when I caught 1 bass and the 4 pike. I caught decent size bass that was up by some rocks near a marina. Wish I would have caught more bass but overall had a great time.

Fished Ovid yesterday, only one fish in 3 hours. We wanted to catch fish so we went to Lansing for 3 hours. Got a limit of 1.5-2lb fish on jerkbaits. Wouldnt touch anything but. Got a 26 in pike which is a giant there lol. My buddy fished a smaller shad type white jerkbait and it out produced my perch colored mcstick.
