I fail to see the problem...I hate having to wait for the gear lube to drain from the lower unit.  Now you can open the plugs, eat dinner while the fluid drains, and then finish the job.  Sound like a time saver to me.   

Plus if your wife complains, just explain to her how the top of the motor will create a nice flat shelf to put a decorative centerpiece on for Thanksgiving.
