We've been over this before I'm sure but what do must of you with HB units like. I had an older Navionics east that I liked but it was in a Hb 788 that jumped off my Bow. Got another and even though it has a built in Map, I would like to know what is preferred. I fish Michigan mostly Wayne, Oakland, Macomb, Genesee counties.

I have Lakemaster chips in both my birds and like them.  The new for 2014 chips include more HD lakes than ever before and cover 6 states now I believe.
Addicted to fishing.  All the time, any species, anywhere!!  Especially in West Michigan!!!

I am a little confused on this also. I have a lakemaster in my lowrance H20 and it has great contour lines. The lakemaster I have in my bird has about half the contour lines my lowrance has. Anyone know what the difference in chips are?

The Lakemaster in your Lorwrance must be old as they are now owned by Humminbird and only work in their units.  On all the Lakemaster chips, it matters what lake you are on as to how much detail their will be.  Many lakes are in HD with 1 foot contour lines, but many are still the old 5 foot detail as there is only so much data that will fit on a single chip as well as the limited amount of data actually available to put on the chips.

Both companies now have chips that can "learn" your lake just by driving around recording the contours and then importing them onto the map chip.  Pretty cool stuff.

Great info. but The old Navionics East one I had was great for the Eastern part of the country and had all the lakes in the counties in Michigan I fish in.  I had issues with Navionics updating there chips and always wanting you to buy the new one. The Lakemaster I recently looked at didn't have Lobdell/Bennet. It had Oakland on it but did that include Woodhall? Are all of the Pinkney chain on it? Is Lake St. Clair HD? Can anyone confirm these lakes? I found aseller of a Navionics east older version for $60 bucks and thinking about buying it.

Lowrance chip is around 5 years old and was mint. Bird chip was purchased last year has 5ft contour lines and its an hd unit. What did/am I doing wrong?

Sorry Huston. I'm trying to hijack your post.  :D

Not all the lakes on a Lakemaster chip are in hi-def.  What lake are you refering to?  Lakes like St. Clair, Muskegon, White (Montague), Hardy Pond, Burt/Mullet are in HD.  Many smaller lakes are still not that detailed.

Didn't get that Navionics card, it sold for about $90.00 on Ebay. It was older and for that amount of money, I could buy a new one for $116.00. Still not sure what I want

age not a real problem on Nav Card is purchased at a deal. You can purchase up date a year at a time. Wish Lake Master would do the south east lake here in the Carolina. Feel like a Red Headed Step Child :D

Purchased the Navionics East  which is updateable  for $116.00

I just purchased the new, Midwestern States Lakemaster chip. I just stuck it into my Humminbird 899 and was pretty impressed with some of the additional lakes it now allows full HD in.  There are still some very good mid-sized mid Michigan and southern Michigan lakes that are only standard 5ft contours.  I just got the new Terrova with the I Pilot-Link so I plan on utilizing those HD contours with this advanced technology.  I have 2 899's bowmount and console, and I was actually thinking about sticking a new Lakemaster in my console unit. I do like how the Lakemaster chips show specific hazards and zones with rock / wood / trees / and other forms of structure. Roadbeds as well, even though these aren't common in Michigan. Anyone have any recommendations on this?  Think I should also get a navionics chip for the console only? I definitely have to keep the Lakemaster in my bow unit to utilize the I-pilot Link though.
