Yesterday at the Natural Resources Commission meeting in Lansing, science prevailed thanks to many, many persons who took the time to write in, and especially those who showed up to speak before the Commission on Commissioner Walters’ amendment to close bass fishing on the Inland Waterway and Black Lake from May 1 until the third Saturday in June.

Well interesting report for all yall heading up to Burt Lake this week.  Saturday was my first time on the lake.  Launched out of Burt Lk. St. Park.  Water temp at park 62.  Water temp on north end of lake around 61.  Searched lots of perfect looking spawning flats and didn't see a single bed.  Water was clear enough to see bottom in 12-13 feet.  Saw lots of cruising smallies on breaks from rock to sand in 6 to 8 feet, but not up much shallower.  Couldn't get the cruisers or shallow fish to bite on anything.

I am guessing that they are looking to spawn real shortly.  Good luck fellas, it was a real tough bite.

It has been a very funny year, I am in southern MI and have big smallies bedding alot later than they have in many years and in warmer water than I have ever seen them bedding in. I will be fishing the bfl this week and I am very interested to see what these fish will do, I think its gonna setup for for some bigger than normal bags on this chain, we will see.

Dan

I typically plan on June 10 for the inland lake smallie spawn in the lakes I fish in NW Michigan. Year to year it's pretty close to that date. GT Bay much later.

I'm going up to Burt Lake around mid-June with a group of guys.  Any general depths or structure I should be looking for at that time of year?  Also, where is the best place to launch from?  Thanks. :)

Bear lake in manistee county is over 2 weeks later than last year. Only seeing a few beds with few fish near them. 60-62 temps yesterday. Night time temps in 30 and 40s pushing everything back up here.

The bfl is a week earlier this year than it has been in the past if I'm not mistaken.

I cannot wait to hear stories and read the results of the BFL.

I'm told the fishing was a 'little slower' this year but 24 anglers still managed to bust 20 pounds! Ralph Blasey almost won! 2nd place. Good job Ralph. He said he thought he might have found something good... New day today for the TBF anglers. Should be more bass moving in.

Help stop invasive spcies. Don't move fish between unconnected bodies of water. Clean, drain and dry your boat before launching on another water body.

Thanks for the preview Dan.  I look foward to hearing news from TBF.
