The poorly written, damaging to Michigan Sport Fishing commercial fishing bills have been introduced again. State House Bills 5801 and 5802, introduced by Rep. Dave Prestin and Rep. Jason Morgan, have been assigned to the House Committee on Natural Resources and Tourism.

This is a tale of two lakes. Intertwined lakes, in Barry County, Michigan. Where somehow the water has gone away. Upper and Lower Crooked Lakes, both near and dear to me, are suffering from the lowest water levels I've seen in the 35+ years I've been fishing them.

Looking for some set-up tips...engine height, prop size, jack-plate etc with regards to this model. I have a 98' with 225efi running a 3-blade a 5800rpm @ 70gps....I'm looking at going to a 25p Trophy 4-blade...are the any opinions what I should be turning/running?  Thanks.

From what I have heard - Rangers run best with Tempests (3 blade).  If you go to the Trophy you will probably handle rough water better, but everything else will suffer.  If you are hitting 70gps and 5800rpms, there is not much left in that combination.

How is the hole shot?

if you haven't already check out www.bassboatcentral.com they have tons of setup information for every different rig you can think of.  they also have forum moderators that will ask you the right questions about your setup and give you help in improving it.

BUT as smbassman says if your at 70, i think your getting almost every ounce.  I don't think the efi will want to turn many more RRR's than that either...

I found if you call ranger they will set you on the right path. No one knows how to make them run like the mfg.

519 back them seemed to top out at about 73 mph without a lot of intense work to make small gains. I'd be more than happy with a 70 mph boat since the inland speed limit in Michigan is 55mph and the Great Lakes more than 1 mile off shore (no speed limit) is often too rough to run all out.

The 4-blade may give you more control in the rough stuff and better planing at low speeds (in the rough stuff) overall. Generally a little off the top and a little better holeshot, but every boat/motor/prop combination is a little different. 25 is probably a good size. I have had some good information provided by the factory too on these kinds of questions.

On my todo list: trick, beg or bribe some boat setup wiz's to join the GLB forum. (I'm moving from the 'if I build they will come' stage into the 'trick, beg or bribe' stage  :D)
