Can anyone verify for me if a non-resident of canada under the age of 18 must purchase a Canadian Fishing License? I am only 17 but have seen both, that i must have a license, and i've also seen that i don't need a license. I can not find the official website so if anyone has any help i appreciate it.

Hey Kid,

Here's your answer...

Look at below link from 2005-2006 Guide...

On page 3 under "Nonresident Section" - You need to be 18 or over as a non-resident. Good news - You are good for this year...

http://www.mnr.gov.on.ca/mnr/pubs/fishing/fishRegs/2005/Info_fr2005.pdf

Also I checked the 2007-2008 changes and nothing about age, so you will be fine.

Official Ontario Site:

You just saved $60.00  ;D

You might consider having an official copy of your birth certificate on you - not a copy machine copy, but a certified copy. If stopped by either side, you may be asked to prove your citizenship.

Help stop invasive spcies. Don't move fish between unconnected bodies of water. Clean, drain and dry your boat before launching on another water body.

Also, got to be careful about the specifics of the non-resident license: http://www.mnr.gov.on.ca/MNR/fishing/nonres.html - ran into this before. Do not buy a conservation license if you want to have a 5-bass limit ever - the creel limit on a conservation license is only 2 bass.

From the MNR web site above:
"Non-residents under 18 years of age may fish without a licence if accompanied by a adult who has a recreational fishing licence. Any fish caught are part of the catch and possession limit of the adult who holds the licence. As another option, non-residents under 18 years may purchase a licence and any fish caught apply to the catch and possession limits of that licence."

It says the above on page 3 of the fishing guide too.

If you plan on fishing tournaments and/or plan on keeping your own creel of fish, you need your own license. If you will not be keeping any fish, then you may not need your own license.

Well I guess I messed up - Thanks for the correction Dan  ;)

Well Kid, unfortunately you may have to pay $60 or just call the 800 number for Ontario office and explain your situations.

If I was fishing BFL or Stren - I would GET it just because no one needs the hassle if you get stopped on the water.
