Looking to upgrade a rod this year but limited on funds.  Any suggestions for a solid spinning rod for around $100.  Drop shot and tubes mostly.  Probably looking for something 7ft plus right?

I currently have a All Star tube rod that is about 6 years old and I don't like how heavy it is, looking for something lighter. .  I have a falcon low rider 6'6 ML about ten years old that I like and use to drop shot but it is a bit too soft and not fast enough in the tip.

Maybe trade in an older rod at BPS this week for the trade up sale.  How about the BPS Extreme rods, have a 6ft model that I like.

Let me know what you guys think?

there are a couple of good sales at bps right now.  to really take advantage do this.  buy multiple rods of the same model, get the extended warranty on 1, use it on all.  You just cant seem to beat the fact that you can break it thursday and replace it Friday.

St Croix has a couple nice rods for around that price. You can get the triumph for around 80 and I think a mojo bass for around 100

None of those are sponsors of this site like Grandt Rods is. There are many to choose from int eh All American line. Unconditional Life Time Warranty. You'll get that with no other rod. Many from this site us Grandt exclusively. PM me if you have any questions.

You may want to consider under $100 rods too.  Powell has the Diesel series of rods around $70.  I'll be picking up a Diesel and an Endurance this spring. Have a Powell Max and Endurance for casting rods already.  Love the rods and they have great customer service.  Think Laporte fishes with them too.

Everyone likes what they like.  Shop around, see what fits you best.

Simple:  Shimano Clarus series.  GREAT rods for around $100.  Great guides, very light, very sensitive, lifetime warranty.

I like the reel seats on the Shimano rods.  Very comfortable.  You don't get that (to me) uncomfortable threaded section under your front finger.

See these rods:

Addicted to fishing.  All the time, any species, anywhere!!  Especially in West Michigan!!!

Kistler Rods makes a Carbon Steel series that is an excellent dropshot rod and is lighter than most rods on the market at 3.7oz for your price range. They just redesigned it for 2013, looks sweet. They are also on sale right now for $80. Check it out:

Got Fish??

I like BassPros extreme rods (the green ones) For under $100, most of my of my rods are extreme rods

The current issue of Field and Stream has new products for 2013 that they felt were the best value. The Cabela's Fish Eagle 50 series rod goes for $90 and has 50 million modulas graphite, single foot ceramic guides and a top down reel seat tighteners. I've handled one and plan on using one this Spring. Check out the magazine and the rod. Field and Stream thought highly of the rod, high enough to give it their recommendation.

Grandt Rods will have a huge display at the March 21-24 Ultimate Sport Show at DeVos Place in Grand Rapids. If you are in that area, you can try a bunch of them out firsthand and get the much-reduced show pricing. Made in the US by Grandt Rods (maker of ~70 other private label brands). Lifetime warranty. If you tell them you are a GreatLakesBass.com member, you will get the best deal at the show.

I have been steadily replacing my old rods with Grandt Rods, mostly in the All American series and some of those are my favorite for a technique I have ever used such as my all-time favorite bigwater spinnerbait rod - the C10. Very light. Very sensitive. Nice looking rod.

My last brand when I was still a 'sponsored' tournament angler was All Star so I know what you are talking about and I immediately felt the difference between the two. My experience with All Star is from just before they sold to K2 back when they came out with the Titanium so I have no experience with them since but it felt like like I took a mitten off my hand when I switched to the Grandt Rods. That big of an improvement.

Help stop invasive spcies. Don't move fish between unconnected bodies of water. Clean, drain and dry your boat before launching on another water body.

Fenwick HMG. I like em because they have a long foregrip as i like to fish with hand in front or most of my fingers in front of the reel.

Being a big fan of Bass Pro Shop rods, I would definitely give the BPS CarbonLite series a serious look. It is on sale right now for $89.97. I looked at them last night, and was really impressed with the light weight and feel. I was shopping to replace an Extreme Series rod that I lost in the fall. I ended up buying another Extreme, but it was not an easy decision. The deciding factor came down to the handle.

I have large hands, so I've always been a fan of the BPS rods with the cork PowerHump handles. The Extreme Series rods still have them. The CarbonLite has the new P-Tec polyfoam grips. They feel great, and are super light, but they felt a little small in my hand, and I wasn't sure that I could get used to it.

With that said, you might want to give the Extreme series a look, too. I use them almost exclusively, and have been very happy with their performance. They sell for $99.99.

Oh, and here's a bonus. March 1st -5th BPS is having the Rod Trade-in sale. If you trade in a (usable) used rod, you can get another $15.00 of either series.
