It was either sizing you up as 1) a foot item, or 2) a mate!?! ;D

I think some of you are posers... dogfish do too have teeth! Just like a pike only a lot less numerous. You grab the part of the mouth (scattered all over) with a few of those teeth and THEN you will remember they have teeth like a pike!

I love fishing for dogfish. I stalk them sightfishing style. Drop a jig or plastic bait in front of the maw (with teeth) of a dogfish that is either not spooked, or just doesn't care, and they will nail it in a lightning-fast strike!

They are an ancient fish that has been around way longer than humans. Dogfish knew the dinosaurs. They have their natural place in the environment as a scavenger and harvester of the weak, slow and not too bright in the water. They are part of a healthy aquatic ecosystem and deserve the same respect as any other native species that belongs here.

If BASS FISHERMAN was still around I have no doubt he would say:
DOGFISHES RULES!!!

just don't try to eat them... yech... unless you like the taste of muddy, rancid cotton...

Help stop invasive spcies. Don't move fish between unconnected bodies of water. Clean, drain and dry your boat before launching on another water body.

BIGSHOW

A mate, lol. Didn't think about that. As long as they don't fly like them carp I should be ok. Unless I snag on to one. Have to pull out my extra long needle nose pliers.

If it's spring and they have bright green fins... love is in the air...

Some have triangle like teeth sticking from their jaw plate, but quite a few have anywhere from 10 to 15-18 pike-like fangs scattered around their jaw. They can do some damage. Muscular. Super slippery. Though I have never lipped on myself - Dan? You were a school teacher, right...?!? ;D - I do recall a member from my old, old bass club lipping one once in a club tournament. His name was Snag. I can't recall if he and his wife both went to the Emergency Room together that day..? Or if it was two different events..?!?

Oh well. Here is some dogfish love for you:
