Yesterday at the Natural Resources Commission meeting in Lansing, science prevailed thanks to many, many persons who took the time to write in, and especially those who showed up to speak before the Commission on Commissioner Walters’ amendment to close bass fishing on the Inland Waterway and Black Lake from May 1 until the third Saturday in June.

I was out with a buddy fishing senkos and he was using a weighted hook. Gamakatsu makes them. They have a flat weight (red) at the eye. It sinks, of course, but as it does because the weight is flattened it oscillates back and forth imparting quite a bit more action to the senko style bait. I used a traditional o ring set up with my wacky worm and we used the same color. No difference except the weight. He waxed me and made me a believer in the weighted hook. I now always have one rigged with the weight and the other weightless.

This hook is really hard to find. You may need to buy them online. I got mine at Pilgrim's Village in Cadillac. It is the biggest little tackle shop in the north.
"Not in the clamor of the crowded streets nor in the shouts and plaudits of the throng, but within oneself lies victory or defeat."

Got Fish??

Using the right size hook makes all the difference. I use 1/0 octopus. I get more hookups on my strikes. With less hooks being  swallowed.. These longer offset hooks seem  to scare the fish.

i use the nail weights like dan mentioned. i get mine from kustom kicker (called baby weights). they are very similar to the lunker city variety. KK also carries weighted finesse/wacky hook that is top notch, i however prefer the nail weight and a 2/0 gamikatsu finesse wide gap hook.

I will make a note of that since I am getting close to out of the big batch of Lunker City nail weights I bought many, many years ago. Was wondering what I would do when I run out? Now I know!

I've been playing with weighted hooks too. Still like the nail weight the best. I use lots of those weight up with the secret, not to be mentioned (Neko) rig.

Help stop invasive spcies. Don't move fish between unconnected bodies of water. Clean, drain and dry your boat before launching on another water body.
