I'm disappointed to see now that House Natural Resources and Tourism Committee Chair Representative David Martin has added those very bad commercial fishing bills HB 5801 and 5802 to an upcoming committee hearing on Wednesday, May 20, 2026 at noon.

The poorly written, damaging to Michigan Sport Fishing commercial fishing bills have been introduced again. State House Bills 5801 and 5802, introduced by Rep. Dave Prestin and Rep. Jason Morgan, have been assigned to the House Committee on Natural Resources and Tourism.

This is a tale of two lakes. Intertwined lakes, in Barry County, Michigan. Where somehow the water has gone away. Upper and Lower Crooked Lakes, both near and dear to me, are suffering from the lowest water levels I've seen in the 35+ years I've been fishing them.

Hello all,

Anyone have any preferences when it comes to markers for Lake Eire? (15-40ft)

My cheap standard ones just don't seem to hold when the winds picks up and I have actually lost a couple weights already this year.

Any tips?

Thanks

LennyB

If you really want to mark your spot, use an old 10 pound weight from an old dumbell set, 200 pound test nylon rope, and milk jug. I guarantee it will stay put.

Or a duck decoy? ;D Some people even use fake gulls!

I use a larger dumbbell type marker sometimes with about 5 ounces of weight on the end. I do the same thing with regular 'H' type markers when I'm near the shipping channel in St. Clair.

Help stop invasive spcies. Don't move fish between unconnected bodies of water. Clean, drain and dry your boat before launching on another water body.
