I'm planning on moving to a new server within the next 2 to 3 weeks. Just a little friendly warning as there might be a few hours of odd behavior when the process starts. I will try to have it done at night or weekend.

Christmas in August - My KVD Fishing Package Arrived

I said in an earlier post that I'd relay what I won in the KVD Fishing Package sweepstakes. Today Fed Ex delivered a 7' KVD Quantum Crankin rod, a Quantum PT KVD 100Spt reel, and a KVD Secret Color Crankin Kit. Wahoo!! I'm a happy camper. Been wanting a dedicated cranking rod, and I've always liked KVD's signature series. My KVD autograph jersey has been sent to Kevin to autograph, and I'll be getting that soon. Thank you Bass Pro Shops!!! I always stop at every one I go by, and I'll be sure not to break that long standing tradition!!!

Nice!!!  When you going to be in the area to do some fishing with that new gear?

Dan

I haven't fished since mid June. Just anchored here at home. We are in the process of trying to find a nursing home for my mother-in-law, and that has not been working very well. Either my wife or I have to be here all the time now. We were able to get away for a week when my wife's sisters came to stay. I may be able to get out after the holiday. We are going to try to take gramma to the cabin with us. It's just one of those times in your life that you just do what you have to do and it is what it is. It really brightened my day though to get that stuff today. I really didn't know exactly what I was getting. The rod came this morning via Fed Ex. It came by itself, so I though I was just getting a rod. Then about an hour later, another Fed Ex vehicle came and delivered a box that had the reel and the plano of cranks. That really made me happy. I have really been wanting a dedicated crankbait rod. I have one that I use, but this is really great. I'm hoping to get in some fall fishing.
I still am waiting on the autographed jersey from KVD. The email I got said they had it shipped to him to sign. I'm hoping it is a real KVD jersey. If it is, I'll have it framed and put it on the wall. I may save it depending on how he signs it, and get a picture of he and I in our jerseys to mount in the jersey frame. I have met Kevin a number of times and spent a day with him when he filmed a series of Bass Pro Shop videos for the Bass Pros TV show on a private lake that my buddy controls. I don't know if he remembers my name though. He meets lots of folks.

Karma Dan. I think you got some good karma.

Oh... and when do I get to go to the private lake? ;D

Well that could probably be arranged. My friend caretakes for 3,000 acres of land and this lake is in the middle of it. It is a mile from any road. There are two cabins that are for rent on this lake. You get a boat, but no motor, it's a trolling motor only lake. They made an exception when Kevin spent the day there. He brought a Bass Pro Shop videographer, Dave, and they filmed three different segments for the Bass Pros TV show. We sat on the shore and stayed out of their way. We could watch most of it from shore. We had lunch ready for them and spent an hour eating burgers and chatting. Kevin was very gracious and gave my buddy a bunch of baits and Dave gave him some BPS gift cards. By the time Kevin was done, word had gotten around and there were several people there waiting for autographs. KVD gave them all the time in the world. He's a pretty good guy! KVD and Dave left from there, after filming for almost 11 hours. They then went up to Grand Traverse Bay. If anybody ever really wants a neat get away the cabins on that lake are quite nice. Very private and lots of wildlife, eagles, deer, bear, turkeys, etc. Just 15 miles north and west of Baldwin.

That's awesome Dan!  Congrats!  I've met KVD a few times at the Novi Fishing Expo and he's always been great to talk to and ask questions.  I've always had done well with KVD gear, too.

Dan - is it an advertised and promoted place or kept kind of quiet because it has enough business? Just curious. Sounds like a very nice place to stay. Probably out of my budget for now but I'd like to know more about. Maybe put it on my future todo list. Always thinking about and looking for places that can provide some good content photos and video. Can you PM or email me some more info please? Thanks.

Is that by any chance in/or near Irons?  I do a lot of hunting and a bit of fishing up that way.  I would be interested in more info on it.

I hope you can get out before winter Dan.  I feel your pain.  I only fished two or three times in August.  Lot's of stuff going on.  Fished mostly this year in May and June with about a dozen dates in July.  Hopefully September and October will bring more opportunities for you and me.  Even when I get a lot of days to go, it's still not enough.

It is indeed in the Irons area. I have a place on Big Bass Lake and my friend Rick has been the caretaker at a place south and west of there about 7 miles.  The family that owns the land leases some of it to hunters for the season and they have a couple of rentals on a beautiful little private lake.

Thanks BD. I'm really hoping that I can get in a couple of fall trips as well. I want to try out this new rod and reel. I need to take the reel back to BPS though. I prefer to fish left handed reels, even though I'm right handed. The reel they sent me was a righty, and they do make a lefty in that model. We'll have to try and find a date and get you over to the West side of the state some time. We could fish Hamlin, Portage, Manistee, or make a hour run north of the cabin to Duck, Green, or Long.

Congratulations Dan  !!!!!  Which contest was it you entered??  was it on-line.... or in the stores??

Hope you get to try it out soon  !!!!

Dan

To tell you the honest truth, I don't know which contest it was. I have applied for a bunch. I know I applied for at least two contests that headlined KVD. I have also been in to Bass Pro Shops in several states several times. Maybe we can meet up on Hamlin one of these times you are up north.
