Move went fine. The new server is much faster. Which is good!

I'm planning on moving to a new server within the next 2 to 3 weeks. Just a little friendly warning as there might be a few hours of odd behavior when the process starts. I will try to have it done at night or weekend.

I am not very familiar with the Yamaha motors, and I have recently acquired one. It is a 2000 model VMax 225, ox66.  This thing is a smoker on start up.  Is this a common trait for this motor?

Firefighter Jeff

Hmmmmmmmm,  Mike I had a 2002 Vmax ox66  150 hp and I don't recall it smoking any more than any other engine I've owned.

Mike S.

I don't like the sound of that, Jeff. This thing smokes way more than my Merc or Mariner ever did. But, it is only on the first start up. After that, it's good to go. I am so paranoid about this motor. I have a hard time with new things, until I build up confidence in it. There is a lot to learn on this new boat for me. It's so much more complex than my Nitro was.  I am trying to get used to the jack plate, and the dual gas tanks.  That is a whole other story in itself.  Quite comical, makes me feel like a real jack@$$.

JL

I have a 2004 ZX225/Yamaha ox66 225 and yes they smoke a lot on start up.  They will also suck the oil down as well when running, but overall a good reliable motor.

Mike S.

Im glad to  >:(hear that they are notorious smokers. I found a post on BBC about them this morning. I haven't come across anybody unhappy with their Yam.

Just got mine worked on. Dont let the mechanic put in the oxygen sensor. Just got banged for 336.00 just for the part. You can do it yourself. I had the internal filters changed, and both lift pump diaphrams changed.890.00 bones. I was not a happy dude.

jim 2row

Oh yea sorry. Mine does smoke and burn thru oil. That has never bothered me thou. Rather have a little xtra going thru. The mechanic did say the ring free is huge on those motors. And he also said always idle with the motor trimmed up which I always do but thought I would throw it at ya.

Mike S.

Mine is in the shop right now. It has a leak on the top of the evaporation tank on the motor. It is leaking oil. I originally took it in because it was stalling out when I would get up to 65 mph.  Well, we quickly figured that problem out. I knew nothing about how to switch from tank to tank, thought it was the switch on the dash. Don't laugh, I have never had to deal with 2 tanks before.  I put $40 in one tank, and the other was almost empty.  Lo and behold, when it emptied, I sucked a bunch of air into my fuel system.  The primer bulb wouldn't get hard, and the boat was running out of gas on the top end, or at least on the way to it. When I got to the dealer, he pointed the bulb upwards, and in 4 squeezes, it was rock hard.  Now I know how to operate my tanks, so I won't have that problem again.  That was the only thing Chad didn't go over with me on the boat. I am praying that I get her back tomorrow. I had to miss my first NBAA tourney to go get it. I really am not going to be happy if I miss another one. They were waiting on parts this afternoon when I called, so we'll see what tomorrow brings.

Firefighter Jeff

Hey Mike, I was real happy with the Yammie I had.  Ran great.  It was also recommended to me to use the ring free also, and I did.  :)

Mike S.

What is the ring free?  Never heard of it.

markgoetsch

It's a fuel additive like quikleen but for a yamaha.
