I'm planning on moving to a new server within the next 2 to 3 weeks. Just a little friendly warning as there might be a few hours of odd behavior when the process starts. I will try to have it done at night or weekend.

I have a 1996 Starcraft sportfisher with a 1997 Merc 115 outboard.
Last fall when I put in the shed the tilt worked fine as I lowered the motor when I got the trailer blocked up off the floor. When the trailer is blocked up there is about an inch of room between the skeg and the floor so I can not get the boat out till I can raise the motor.
When I hook the battery up I can hear a noise when I hit the tilt switch on the motor but nothing happens. there are 3 switches one in the bow, one on the mutil stick and one on the side of the motor.

Need to get the moter tilted to even take it to a shop.

Is the + and - connected correctly. :P

Maybe try and tap on the trim motor to see if it moves.  Sometimes the Coils in electric motors "stick". I know my lawn mower starter needs a good smack every once in a while to get moving. Just a thought.  Good luck.

i have a manual realease on mine, my motor is only a 50hp not too heavy though. it should get u out of the garage. not exactly sure if it is accessible with the motor all the way down. just a thought

Durand Dan

Might be the front toggle switch went bad and blew a fuse. Usually 5amp

alleyyooper

The trim gets unlocked when you place it in a forward gear. I tried to lift it by hand, way to heavy for my scranny butt.
Fuse, HUMMMMM never thought of that. Will have to look for them.

When all else fails hit it with a BFH. I don't think thats the way to go. Better to check with the libaray to see if maybe they have a repair manual for it with  a electrical wireing diagram.

Thanks for the replys.

I was having a similar problem last year with my 150 Evinrude, except i wasn't hearing any noises when i would try any of my 3 trim switches.
My problem was inside the contacts under the motor cover. I took the wires out out, cleaned the spade fittings and putthem back in - no more problems.
This may not be your problem, as you seem to hear the trim motor trying to life the motor....if that is the case, something is keeping the motor from moving.

???

Thanks Frank.
I don't think what I am hearing is the trim motor as it seems to be in the bow area. I did check the electric contacts yesterday under the motor cover to the rocker switch. still havn't found any fuses either.
Found a repair manual at the libary yesterday for the oldwhite painted Mercs I believe from the 50's. Havn't had time to go thru it yet though.Maybe if we get that forecasted thunder storm this afternoon.

Did you get this figured out?

Help stop invasive spcies. Don't move fish between unconnected bodies of water. Clean, drain and dry your boat before launching on another water body.

Ran into a busy schudule so haven't had time to mess with it. I did have to return the book to the libary but I knowthey have one now.

Thanks for asking.
