Yesterday at the Natural Resources Commission meeting in Lansing, science prevailed thanks to many, many persons who took the time to write in, and especially those who showed up to speak before the Commission on Commissioner Walters’ amendment to close bass fishing on the Inland Waterway and Black Lake from May 1 until the third Saturday in June.

My son, Brad (he is 14) wanted me to take him to St. Clair or Erie so that he could catch a big smallie like Uncle Jeff did (FFJeff on the board).  My boat is only 16' 9" long with a 77" beam with a 115 HP motor on it and I told him that I wasn't too comfortable taking it out on that big of water.  I have been on those lakes with 20' & 21' boats at times and still was not crazy about it with the way the waves can get.  So since Jeff and T. Cook did so well up at Burt, I told him we would go there.  So............would anyone like to share any info on Burt, Mullet or any other surrounding water in the area.  I heard there are a lot of smaller lakes close that we could go to if it is too windy on the bigger lakes.  We are going to be there thru Oct. 29th - 31st. Any info on the lakes on areas to fish, (land marks) depth to fish and types of baits to try would be greatly appreciated!!  I am not a tournament fisherman, that is not why I'm asking for help.  I fish for fun & practice CPR (Catch, Photo, Release) plus this may only be a once a year trip as it is about a 5 1/2 drive for me.  Also if anyone would like to PM me instead of responding to this post, you are more than welcome!! Thanks in advance!!

Old Fishermen Never Die......They Just Smell That Way

Got Fish??

I know what you mean about the big water. I have a 16ft tracker and you really have to pick your days out on those lakes. If your local too Wayne county. Bellvel lake and Ford lake are hot right now for smallmouth. I wish I could tell you something about Burt or Mullet lake, but I have not fished those lakes for many years.

Eric

As of now, I am going to Burt this weekend.  I will tell you everything I find out when I get back.  Feel free to remind me to do so in case I forget.
