Anyone out on St. Clair lately??

Hey guys,  If the weather cooperates there's a chance I'll be bringing a coworker up early Monday morning, and heading home Tuesday evening.  It's usually easy catching fish in the spring, what will it be like now???  Do the fish start to scatter???  Do you just start to drag baits in a little deeper water to find them??  We'll probably head to the mile road area.  Thanks in advance for your help!!    Jeff

well partner the fish r postspawn now...they r scattered with every now and then u will find small groups...ive been up for 4 days now...im catching fish but small ones 2 to 3 lb class...caught a couple of long fish but were skinny from the spawn...ive been fishing the mile roads, depths 7 to 12 fow...its been kinda tough

Agreed.  I was on the Mile roads Tuesday and got about a dozen, mostly keepers tho.  But it really is slowing down compared to a week ago.  Time to start looking for offshore humps and other structure.  Bummer, I didn't get to experience the great spring I have in the past because of all the lousy weather and muddy water.  I had some good days, but not like years past.

Last Sat 6/3 fished Mile Rds 5-14 FOW got 30+ SM mostly 1.5-2.5 lbs, only 1 over 18 inches. Hot baits: Extreme Bass tackle Mayfly color tubes 5/16 oz and X-Raps....Looks to be all post-spawn now.....Mayflies should start hatching any day now......

The mayflies have hatched, at least around the Clinton Rvr cut-off ramp.  The fish are active though...

We fished the Mile Roads today (6-10) and caught 51 bass, 36 of them would have kept.  The largest was 21 1/8" but only weighed 4.2 lbs.  We caught a lot of 14-16 inchers and the fish were all pretty skinny.  We got some fish on tubes and cranks, but the predominate lure seemed to be spinnerbaits which was a lot of fun.  Most fish were caught in 7 to 9 feet, but were caught as shallow as 3 and as deep as 12. 

I saw a few mayflies when we launched, but there were not noticable numbers in the lake.  Good luck.

Hey, Thanks for the responses guys.  Even though the fishing is slow, I still might head up with my boss.  He'd prolly still have fun with the smaller fish.  He's never fished St. Clair and I doubt if he's even caught many smallies.  I'll wait for more reports and the marine forecast before I decide to drive up.

Wow Ryan, that's awesome news.  It seems to go like that on St. Clair this time of the year.  Some days it'll be slow and seemingly very "post spawn", and some days, the fish will feed actively like what you experienced.  Glad you guys had a great day!  Way to go.  A lot of people don't think you can fish spinnerbaits in open water like that, but I have had great days out there doing just that, so cudos to you for doin' it.  What a fun way to fish.  If I wasn't going to be on Pontiac Lake for the TBF deal Saturday, I'd be out there spinnerbaitin' it up.
