1st Samuel 3

Man, was I struck this week by what I read in 1st Samuel 3.  The implications for today are mind-boggling.  It reads: "Now the young man Samuel was ministering to the Lord under Eli.  And the word of the Lord was rare in those days; there was no frequent vision."

I was struck so strongly because I can't help but feel as though we live in similar times where the voice of the Lord isn't as common, not because He's not speaking, but because we just don't listen as much.  I can think of many reasons why this is so, but as I read this passage, I just kept thinking "God, speak and help me listen!"  I want to hear His voice more than I do.  And when He speaks, I want to be the kind of man that listens, no matter what He says.  Yet there is so much in the way.

I'm not really sure I have much of a point.  I guess I just wanted to share a portion of scripture that really rocked me this week.  This will be something to ponder for weeks, I'm sure.

Great topic Tom because there really is so much in the way.  Scripture is very clear on the pressing nature of marriage and family comittments that necessarily draw our attention but there is more to it than that.  I'm not talking about going back to nature or anything like that but there is a case to be made toward simplifying our lives.  Identifying what a godly priority is, isn't very hard.  Reading scripture and following our heart can keep us on a straight path but then something breaks, then another thing.  Over the years I've been able to drop a lot of stuff off of my life and not pick it up again, but there are still too many distractions.

Isaiah 26:3
You will keep him in perfect peace, Whose mind is stayed on You,Because he trusts in You.

Let it be so....
