Fisherman's Landing.

I stopped in there today to buy launch permits for my boats. The lady working is married to one of my friends from work. I ask for the permits and she tells me that they don't have any to sell. She says the city hasn't brought them down yet.

We talked for a few minutes and I had to ask her what she has been told about whether or not they are moving Fisherman's further down the lake. She tells me that in October she and the other lady who works there will not have jobs. She also says that Fisherman's will be down at the old paper mill property. 

If this is the case, we now will have to tow our boats through downtown traffic all of the time. It is going to be a complete disaster on holidays and during the summer concert series.  And that leaves two ramps at the east end of Muskegon Lake, the Conservation Club and the river launch on the Causeway. Neither of which are truly desirable for launching at.

I for one am not very happy about us, the people who pay to use that facility and ultimately keep it running, not getting a chance to voice our opinions or get the opportunity of a fair chance to vote on the issue. The city of Muskegon must like to cut its own throat every chance it gets. They seem to kill everything good. It's all in the best interest of the guy with the deeper pockets.

Why has there been no public meetings? I can't seem to get any clear information on what is going on beyond things closer to rumor than fact?

I don't know why there's not been any public meetings about it. I think Muskegon is just going to do whatever they want to do. They don't care about us. Just like how they make boat owners pay to launch their boats, but anybody can take up parking spots, fish from the docks, steal from our boats, and snag fish that we let go, all free of charge.

What I hope to see is all tournaments get moved to the state park. Then the city of Muskegon could shove it. I personally don't want to buy a launch permit after they move. I'm not looking forward to towing the boats through town, or almost all the way to the other end of the lake.

Since most everyone buys the State Part stamp for their plate, why wouldn't they move there?  Then people don't have to pay any additional fees to launch their boats.  That would make the most sense to me.

Problem is the State Park only has 35 parking places.  Only small tournaments could launch there considering people already using the launch.  I had heard they were going to do this a few years back.  Now it seems like it's going to happen.  Bummer!  Guess they don't need the money from us as well.

Wow.  That blows...    Winding around to use the State Park launch already adds an extra 15-20 minutes to the trip from GR.  Fisherman's was much more convenient coming from 31....

On a related note, I heard the city of Muskegon launch permits have to go on the vehicle now instead of the trailer.  Any truth to that, Mike?

The only bummer about the state park is that the docks are short, the lake is really shallow for a long ways out, and there's not as much ramp as Fisherman's has. As for the permits going on your vehicle, I don't know yet. I haven't gone back to buy my permits. Either way, I will have to buy 2 still.
