Yesterday at the Natural Resources Commission meeting in Lansing, science prevailed thanks to many, many persons who took the time to write in, and especially those who showed up to speak before the Commission on Commissioner Walters’ amendment to close bass fishing on the Inland Waterway and Black Lake from May 1 until the third Saturday in June.

It was good, as always to see Z! He was rolling right along as usual! It was nice to have Randy tell me how bad he felt when I didn't get off the plane back in January in Brazil! I know how bad I felt but Randy sure is a nice person to be so concerned for someone else! Thanks Randy! Another great spring show my friend!!

We had the added bonus of having pro angler John Murray there unexpectedly so that helped fill in the hole left by missing our interview with Iaconelli.

Not sure what SLS is? He basically was saying that the best lure you have is between your ears and have confidence in it.He is not a loud speaker and I was in the back, but what a nice guy.

One other guy there that surprised me with all the info and tips he was giving to people throughout the store was Mark Romanack. He was telling people where to go for walleyes in the Detroit river, what to use,how to avoid the crowds, best launches, this guy was was gladly helping people out. His honesty is something I don't see much of when it comes to fishing.

His points that I heard Friday were mostly about using your head too. I like that because it is true. You can have the best tools of anyone and still be the worst angler! SLS was 'secret lure syndrome' - a point he made in kind of a psychological warfare discussion that he didn't make prominent but definitely touched on. At his level, the psychological 'warfare' part is intense of course.

He was a little challenging to hear from the back but I noticed at times that everyone got real quiet and leaned forward too. That is actually a sign of successful speaking. I haven't heard him enough to know if he speaks quietly on purpose to make people listen or if his voice just doesn't carry well.

I know my voice does not carry well. Something I do forget at times. Of course, if you go to someone's seminar, you might as well be quiet and listen. Why else be there, right?

Mark Romanack is a knowledgeable angler. He's based here so he knows a lot about Michigan. He gets around and gets to rub elbows with lots of other real good anglers. He has always been a good source of information. I actually wish I could have listened to all the seminars but we were on a mission and only had the afternoon to get our 'work' done.

I attended one of Mark's seminars last year and I learned a number of interesting things including many that would apply to any kind of fishing.
