Yesterday at the Natural Resources Commission meeting in Lansing, science prevailed thanks to many, many persons who took the time to write in, and especially those who showed up to speak before the Commission on Commissioner Walters’ amendment to close bass fishing on the Inland Waterway and Black Lake from May 1 until the third Saturday in June.

Just before the October Natural Resources Committee meeting on Thursday, October 9, Commissioner John Walters added an amendment to Fisheries Order 206 – “Bass - Closed bass CIR season from May 1 – Friday before the third Saturday in June for Burt, Mullet, Crooked, Pickerel, and Black Lakes and their connecting waters.”

FAMILY FISHING EVENTS   May 2011

Metro Toyota's Family Fishing & Outdoor Fun Days
Friday, May 20       2:00pm - 7:00pm
Saturday, May 21    10:00am - 5:00pm

D&R Sports Center is co-sponsoring Metro Toyota's Family Fishing & Outdoor Fun Days. Metro Toyota will have extended hours: Friday from 2-7pm and Saturday from 10am - 5pm. This event will feature kids activities including a casting contest; lifestyle displays for camping, fishing, kayaking and biking; raffles, prizes and refreshments. D&R's own Jonathon VanDam, BASS Elite Series Pro Angler, will be giving fishing and casting demonstrations at 11am and 2pm on Saturday. Family Fishing Fair at Ramona Park
Saturday, May 21    9:30am - 1:30pm

This free event includes activities, instruction and prizes. Featuring Kevin VanDam, 6-time Bassmaster Angler of the Year and 4-time Bassmaster Classic Champion. 100 kids will receive a fishing rod and reel. D&R's own Jim Hamrick will be there to assist, instruct, and rig slip bobber set-ups if desired. Bobbers, sinkers and hooks are provided by Randy VanDam, D&R Sports Center.

Help stop invasive spcies. Don't move fish between unconnected bodies of water. Clean, drain and dry your boat before launching on another water body.
