I'm planning on moving to a new server within the next 2 to 3 weeks. Just a little friendly warning as there might be a few hours of odd behavior when the process starts. I will try to have it done at night or weekend.

Beta testers needed for tournament application

The MDNR has completed their tournament schedule / post tournament creel survey online application.

I am looking for 4 or 5 club tournament directors, open tournament directors or just plain friendly, helpful tournament anglers who are willing to log on to the system, enter some test tournaments into the application, and report what they like/don't like, any odd things that happen.

If you enter a tournament into the schedule for the same day, you can then go in and enter test tournament results information too. This is a voluntary tool that will help everyone schedule their events AND provide some useful catch information to the MDNR who cannot afford to do creel surveys right now.

This application has been in the works for a long, long time.

If you are interested in being a tester, please contact me for the necessary information. All the information entered at this time will be wiped out before the application really goes live. They want to do this within the next 3 to 4 weeks.

PM me or http://glbass.com/contact. Thanks!

What is the overall objective of their app?  Do they want to make a calendar of tournaments?  Do they just want creel information?  I have access to years of tournament catch information if that is what they are looking for.

I'd like to do that Dan.

You are one of the people I thought would be great for this. I didn't want to volunteer you. I will email out the instructions and information they gave me later today. Thanks!

It is 2 parts: 1) provide a voluntary centralized schedule other tournament directors can check to see who is where when; 2) follow up with event fishing results to provide some creel survey information to the Fisheries Division.

I believe you have to enter an event into the schedule, and the date has to be the same date or after the event date before you can enter fishing results. I'm not sure because I have not looked at this new version of the app yet.

Maybe 1 or 2 more testers is all we need for this testing.

Remember that all the information entered during testing will be wiped out before the application goes live to the public.

My club use to send in tournament info every week after our tournament to the locale DNR. Then they never got back to us after a few years so we stop sending it in.

That will work. Don't give up on the MDNR. They may want the information now. They may not have the staff to work with it at the moment but they can eventually use it.

Great! Thanks!

That should be enough testers. I got sidetracked by accounting catch up yesterday and didn't send out this info. I will send everyone the information in the next 30 minutes.

Okay, unless someone has to back out of testing, we have enough testers now - thanks!

If any of you volunteers did not get the email from me with the testing info and attachments, let me know.

I will never give up on them, they seem to be slow at times but nothing good happens over night. Read your email and glad to see my old friend Jason is still around even if they move him on.

Kal-Kevin

Hay Dan
Do they want feed back on how it worked too?

I posted the lake we are doping this year, that are DNR launches, and only found one problem loading them. I did  find one launch they did not listed that is a DNR launch.

Kal

I don't necessarily need the feedback. You can cc me when you email the State of Michigan computer guy if you want. Hopefully, they will get things where they need to be before it goes live soon.

The bugs and missing info are the important parts now. I don't know how much actual changes they can do now beyond fixes and missing info, but share what you think with him. It might lead to improvements later too. Thanks!
