full or split grip? and why?

i'm putting a tour star grip on the new build, and i'm not really sure which way to go with this one. split grip = less weight, full grip = more to grip.

For me
i used to like a full grip
But these days I only have 2 rods with full cork handles

I'd go split grip to match the rest
And with good cork being costly these days It's a bonus, Plus it's lighter
The better grip is only for casting any ways. I've never fought a fish with 2 hands?

I don't think it matters Bob.  I think the main reason rod companies and rod builders went to split was to reduce cost!  Cork is expensive.  Sure it does reduce weight but not that much.  I think now it is all in the look and what look you want.

I was going to answer 'get a right-handed reel' but since Manx and Cy have given serious answers, I guess I better too.

I like lighter. Many of the anglers tell me the split handles provide more sensitivity. I see more reels and rods with pieces missing and holes in them. Even that KVD guy has holes in his reels and pieces missing from his rods. There must be something to it...

My only issue is, being a little clumsy, I want to see if smooths parts are going to be harder to grip, especially when they're wet and I'm cold (we really need some nice weather for 3 to 5 days in a row!). It's embarrassing to toss your tackle into the lake...

One of the reasons I went with the rod company that a choose was that that they had full cork handles
And then they went to the split grips a few years later. I fought it for a while
And then I bought a few and started fishing them.
Really the split grips are now more comfortable for me. I like that they tapper off in the back
If useing 2 hands to cast it's still a little funky. But you get used to it

i really don't see an increase in sensitivity. Lighter Maybe, Cheaper? maybe there's allot less cork
I've heard it takes more time to build a split grip. For a while they did charge more for them
As far as being harder to grip. It's the same if not better for me except for casting with 2 hands, And that is just for zinging it out there or casting cranks
Maybe it's just the fashion or style for bass fishing right now

I myself remember pistol grips being the vogue 30 years ago
Now those were hard to cast with 2 hands

you'll find it easier to lock your forearm into the contour of a split grip rather than a straight grip. Pay attention also when you fish - especially flipping - to how much of the grip you actually touch. you probably only need about 1"-2" of grip behind the reel seat.
