Move went fine. The new server is much faster. Which is good!

I'm planning on moving to a new server within the next 2 to 3 weeks. Just a little friendly warning as there might be a few hours of odd behavior when the process starts. I will try to have it done at night or weekend.

I was just alerted yesterday that anytime in these next 48 hours my entire webserver is being copied and transferred to a different server. I have no exact time because they are doing a bunch of them in the same window but at some point, the database that runs this forum will be turned off, meaning no new posts, replies, edits or data changes during the window the database file is copied to the new server.

This change requires an IP address and nameserver change so there may be intermittent operation and even one or more periods of downtime.

If I get any more specific information, I will share it if and when I can. Sorry for any inconvenience. At some point with a day or so afterwards, most things should be working smoother again and maybe a little faster though it may not be noticeable in general operation because of all the other factors involved in using the World Wide Web.

So much water.  So many lures.  So little time.

The last time (almost exactly 1 year ago) was unplanned AND unwanted... This time, I knew it was coming. I just didn't know when... I got the first false alarm in October! I've been asking and watching since they said, whoops, you aren't in this batch.

But my upstream web host has thousands of servers in several very large buildings. I knew they would get to me eventually. I'd like more notice but oh well. I don't expect this will happen again for years unless I have to go for an upgrade myself or there is some type of weird equipment failure that hits someone with about the same odds as a lightning bolt (that, of course happened to me once too! but hey, I'm a redhead! we're used to it!!).

Already did it... but my own settings for spam and hack prevention killed a huge chunk of it...  :o whoops!! ;D

I'm sure the people who 'missed out' on the email didn't mind much.
