Hi Forum!  Thanks to all you regular posters, loving reading the reports and information.

I'm taking my father up next Thursday to fish through Saturday morning.  His first trip to St. Clair! I've been a handful of other times but only in the prespawn through mayfly hatch times of year.  Have always stayed around 13 mile and fished mile flats areas, but based on what i've been reading, it sounds like the channels and St. Clair river may be where we should start.  If indeed that is where we should be spending our time, my main question is around licenses up there.  Are we limited to only the west shore of the river with a Michigan license?  If so, is it worth the extra cost (and confusions from what i've read hear) to get a canadian license for those 2 and 1/2 days.

Also, any other guidance you could give a first timer in the channels and river would be appreciated.

save your money and fish the US side.  I haven't been to the channels in a week but the last time I was there we got into them.  Should only be better now.

If you're only here for 3 days, you can make the most of the channels. You'll have plenty to fish in the north, middle, and Michigan side of the south channel. I'll be going out of Algonac on Friday morning. PM me if you're interested and I'll be happy to show you some basics.
