This is a tale of two lakes. Intertwined lakes, in Barry County, Michigan. Where somehow the water has gone away. Upper and Lower Crooked Lakes, both near and dear to me, are suffering from the lowest water levels I've seen in the 35+ years I've been fishing them.

Lots of spark plugs for my Yamaha

I have gone through 3 sets of plugs since I got my boat in June of this year.  I don't get it.  I didn't go through that many plugs with my Mercury.  Is that common of the ox66 motors?  The local dealers sure like it, but I'm not too fond of the raping they give out on their plug prices.  They hit me up for $32 for my last set of plugs.  Then, 2 days later, I bought 2 boxes of 10 off of ebay for less than $19 a box.

But anyways, I was just curious to see if this is something typical of these motors.

  Mike I had a 2002 150 ox66 and I never went through  them that fast !!

Oh and those plugs are a lot cheaper than the ones used in Etecs !!!

Eric

I change plugs a couple times a year just to make sure.  But I've never had a plug go bad in mine in the little over 1.2 milion hours I have on it.

I run the NGK BR9HS10's.  That's what the NGK catalog says is the right plug for a 2000 VMax 225.  I changed my plugs when I was having all the running issues with it when I first bought it.  After 2 or 3 months on those, it started bogging on me when I'd take off, and would eventually clear up after I would run the boat a bit.  Usually, on the first run of the day, it wouldn't get over 55 or so.It was that way when we fished Skegemog.  I came home and threw a new set of plugs in it, and it runs awesome again.  I did a compression test, and all of my cylinders are within a couple of pounds of each other.  I guess it's possible that I had bad plugs, but I ran cheap Champions in my Mercury, and never had an issue.  Just thought I would throw it out there and see what you guys had to say.

I run an 2003 225 Ox66 Vmax.  I also use the recommended BR9HS10 plugs.  The only time I have fouled a plug was during intial break in.  This was caused by running double oil and running moderate loads (not enought heat to burn off the oil).

I change plugs are normal routine, but not because it needs it.  They are nice a cheap on this motor.  If you are fouling plugs at this point, something else is wrong.

I had some work done at Rose Marine in Algonac this year.  I'd have it checked out.

I have a 250 4 stroke Yamaha on a Ranger 620,it had 29 hrs on it.Could only get 42 mph on it,it had a bad plug in it.Rose marine checked it out,put a set of new plugs in her,John took her out and got over 60mph.I am hoping it was a isolated issue.
