Yesterday at the Natural Resources Commission meeting in Lansing, science prevailed thanks to many, many persons who took the time to write in, and especially those who showed up to speak before the Commission on Commissioner Walters’ amendment to close bass fishing on the Inland Waterway and Black Lake from May 1 until the third Saturday in June.

Genie and I went to Torch Lake one day too late (luckily for LGMOUTH)! More to report after I get some recovery sleep but here is a picture that tells part of the story of our day after the MadWags Memorial fishing trip to the big and beautiful Torch Lake October 2, 2011! Caught 'slow-burning' a chartreuse and white double willow spinnerbait while 'running the lines.'

More to come on our little adventure and on the MadWags tournament.

I have to share the very end of the adventure especially for LGMOUTH. I drove to Genie's house north of GR. Genie drove up to Skeg and all over the north country and back to GR. Then I drove back to Lansing, all without having one close call with any deer only to come around the last curve just around the corner from my house in Lansing, in the dark, to find 3 deer blocking the road! Luckily for them, I follow the 15 mph speed limit on that tight, narrow s-curve!

They just stood there - two small does and a large fawn - staring back at me like it was odd to see a car on a residential street in Lansing! I had to sit and wait until they decided to walk up a neighbor's driveway and then trot away down the sidewalk!! Big smallies and urban deer! Pure Michigan! Love it!!

Congrats Dan.  I'm afraid "The rest of the story" is gonna make me wish I had taken you up on your offer.  I did get a ton done on Monday though.

The rest of the story has more comedy in it than big fish catching maybe. We shall see... but I need 1 more day of recovery.
