Hit the lake today with Rick aka " Fiker ".  The drive there was interesting this morning.  Heavy thunderstorms with rain and hail.    Got to the lake about 6:00 and it was clearing off.  We started in a back bay and caught one on the first cast on a crankbait.   Started fishing a jig and found the fish hanging around stumps and wood.  We had quite a few doubles.   We headed up river to check another spot.  No bass but rick caught a world class dog fish.  We were happy to get his jig back.  Man them things are ugly.   Headed back down the lake and fished some back bays.  The fish were on the wood there also.   Rick had to leave around noon so I started back where we began the day and caught quite a few really nice fish.  Even found a few on beds.  Did catch a 4.2 smallie off a bed.  I caught one fish on a chatterbait but the jig was the lure of the day.

Details dan wants for his contest.

Powell 7ft med heavy casting rod,  Shimano Curado.  20lb fireline ( last years line )
SS( my own pour ) signature series jig PB&J skirt 30 strands,  Chigger craw trailer green pumpkin.  Sometimes with only one flapper when the other got bit off.

One of my curados broke and would not engage the spool.  Took it apart when I got home and found a little spring had broken inside.  Called Shimano and a new one is on the way free of charge.  Love that company.

now its time to tighten all the bolts and get ready for St-Clair

fiker

And a good time was had by all :)

I learned quite a bit.  One of my goals this year is to learn how to fish the jig.

Steve was a great teacher.    Every time I'd switch to another technique, he'd catch a fish on the jig, forcing me to follow suit.

Great day.  Thank you.

So much water.  So many lures.  So little time.

I fished from shore this morning on one of the bays.  Got 8 keeper largies in just under 2 hours, the best going about 4#.  Couldn't get a jig bite going.  Colorado blade spinnerbait pulled slooowww was the key for me.

Firefighter Jeff

Good job guys.  Great reports !!!
