My Lowrance rep stopped in yesterday and set up a new HDS7 touch screen and gave us a quick demonstration.  If you are a Lowrance fan (or even if you're not) you need to check this thing out.  Pretty cool.  Much easier to use the the current HDS units... very few buttons, touch and drag mapping, multiple overlays, and fairly intuitive to operate.

I've got one you can stop in an play with.  Not trying to make a sale here (in fact, I don't have any to sell yet) but you owe it to yourself to check them out.  If you want any information shoot me a PM.

It would be cool to see
My biggest concern would be, Does water hitting the screen cause a problem

That was the first question I asked him.  It has a special screen that is very scratch resistant and cleans up very easily.  I asked what happens when I get dirty water on it then drag my finger across the screen, will I scratch it?  He said no.   It will not work with gloves on however.

Any idea what the price difference is to the Gen bundle with side scan.

How does it look in direct sunlight???....I have had issues with most of the touch screens that I use on bright sunny days...Are they LED backlit like the HB HD units???

Waterfoul

Looks like the reatil price on the new 7" Touch will be $1549 or roughly $200 more than the non-touch screen unit.  Once difference is the Touch units don't come with a transducer, so you'll have do decide which ones you want.  Seems a little odd to me but that's what we're dealing with at the moment.

As for the sunlight issue... not sure, it's on display inside but it looks like it should be better.

Will the touch screen link to your current HDS units? I have an HDS 8 Gen 2 and HDS 5 at my console, and an HDS 5 at the bow, that are all linked together. It would be nice to have the touch screen on the bow, only if I could link them all together with my sonic hub and Sirius antenna. That would be one sweet set up. 8)

The touch screen units will link to the non-touch units.
