Yesterday at the Natural Resources Commission meeting in Lansing, science prevailed thanks to many, many persons who took the time to write in, and especially those who showed up to speak before the Commission on Commissioner Walters’ amendment to close bass fishing on the Inland Waterway and Black Lake from May 1 until the third Saturday in June.

does anyone know if there is a tournament on st. clair, labor day weekend

Skulley

Not to my knowledge.  I don't think there has ever been one on any summer holiday weekend.

At least two that I know about - both NBAA:
Saturday   9/03  St Clair Double Barrel Shootout Challenge  Safelight - 3:00pm
Sunday     9/04  Sunday St. Clair Challenge                 Safelight - 8 hours

Help stop invasive spcies. Don't move fish between unconnected bodies of water. Clean, drain and dry your boat before launching on another water body.

See, I was mistaken. Is this a first DK???   ???   I don't recall that many if any on Labor Day weekend. I don't recall any on July 4th weekend going back quite a few years. Always 4 or 5 on Memorial Day weekends because that is opening weekend on all but a few bodies of water. But Labor Day???    ???   Got to be a first.

There's so many tournaments put on by so many different (and more and more new groups) each year that there's pretty much no weekend or weeknight left untournamented. (new word I just made up)

I'm with you BD. I thought at one time tournaments were not allowed out of DNR sites on holiday weekends.

Skulley

Right Dan. For the longest time there were never any tournaments on holiday weekends except for Memorial Day weekend. Now it's every night, every weekend, somewhere. That's good, however the economic climate will dictate participation. Hopefully all trails will be successful.

Under the old permitting process, the holiday weekends were not allowed but the MDNR also noted that some public access sites had empty space on the holidays, and also noted that they really were not concerned about the large, Great Lakes-connected public access sites.

Enough in the MDNR realized they would rather work at filling the access sites than trying to keep people from using them. The only lakes left in the permitting process are the very popular, high traffic sites and a few with consistent use issues. Only about 40 MDNR sites now.

There are plenty of ramps that aren't even under MDNR rule also. I wouldn't recommend tournaments target smaller, inland lake ramps that are always popular on holiday weekends, but if they can attract anglers who can get away with fishing on holiday weekends, why not fish?
