I'm planning on moving to a new server within the next 2 to 3 weeks. Just a little friendly warning as there might be a few hours of odd behavior when the process starts. I will try to have it done at night or weekend.

Has anybody tried the product Troll Perfect?

I saw this advertised in BassMaster magazine.  I went to their website to check it out.

http://trollperfect.com/default.aspx

It sounds like it would keep my boat from constantly turning to the right while the tm is in constant on mode.

The cost of the unit doesn't sound bad. (around $20 including shipping).

Part of my reasoning for wanting a recessed pedal is due to the boat always wanting to slowly turn to the right.  I therefore, have to keep one foot on it most of the time.  For me, this creates fatigue.  Especially in my back. I wonder if having one of these babies would be an inexpensive alternative to the after market trolling motor pedal pans, and accomplish what I need.

Has anyone tried this product?
What are your thoughts?

So much water.  So many lures.  So little time.

Hi Rick,
I haven't used that product but just wanted to say I would be extremely careful running a trolling motor on "constant on". Defiantly never do this if your fishing alone and if you have a partner make absolutely sure they know how it works and can operate it. The last thing you want is to fall out of the boat in cold water with your boat cruising away. In a panic mode some non boaters may not know what the constant on is our how to turn it off. As soon as I saw the "constant on" topic, I thought about a client that fell in. I had a difficult time getting him back in the boat and there is no way he would of made it on his own especially if the trolling motor was going.

From what I read it sounds more like a dampener. After reading the installation instructions it seems like a device that adds a little tension between the upper and lower shafts so that they don't spin so freely. I might get this since it could help on mine since when it is cranked up to maximum I can't control it at all, looks like I'm trying to stomp out a bag of poo that is on fire. It might help keep the head pointed in the same direction on constant too.

Are you having trouble with the head spinning or the whole boat wandering to one side? If it's the whole boat I usually leave the outboard trimmed down and turn it in the opposite direction so that it "steers" the boat, usually this is when fighting wind.

I have personally tested this product last summer and it truly works well.  It is a plastic cover that clamps over the shaft bearing between the upper and lower shafts.  You lock down the tension on the stationary shaft, and adjust the tension to the desired level on the moving shaft.
Adjustment takes just a few seconds and is simple even on the water.  Several benefits to the product - with todays high thrust trolling motors, when the motor is on higher speeds and you hit the pedal, the head spins and almost throws you out of the boat.  In addition, in any wind/chop where the motor is coming out of the water, the head tend to drift to the right with each bounce.  This prevents that drift and allows you to keep the boat on track without fighting the pedal constantly.

An added benefit is they are looking molding custom colors to match your boat as well should that be desired.  Just send them a note.

It is also available at the show this weekend at the TBF and ABA booth, as well at the Tracker marine service center in Pontiac by Bass Pro Shops.

If anyone has any questions or reviews on the product, let me know.
