Kent lake Seminar - Tony Yancey

Their Guest speaker will be Tony Yancey, this years "Chiller Thriller" winner and his topic will be on what else, Kent Lake. All are welcome. It will be in the Gander Mountain conference room at 6:30PM.

Tony did a great job yesterday. Though he didn't give specific spots, he did give enough info as far as techniques and what he looks for on Kent and Belleville to help guys find their own fish.

Also it was the Downriver Bass Club meeting it looks like they are a very sound and organized club. they seem to have good turnouts at there events. The club seems to be sort of what the East Side Bass guys were trying to get rolling. They are non competitive and more sharing info oriented at there events to try to bring everyone to the same level of fishing.  I didn't get to meet all of the guys but the ones I did talk to were very genuine peps.

It is a very good club. It's very well organized.  These guys have been doing the downriver club for well over 20 years and have put all they've learned to good use.

It is a non-competitive club.  Other than the local dues ($24/yr), there are no fees or memberships required.   There is a $5 application fee for new members.

Most of the club members have been fishing for a long time.  Some are in their seventies.  They are more than willing to share information.  Teaching each other and comradery is what this club is all about. 

We are just a bunch of guys that love to fish.  This is my first year in the club and I've had a ball.  Met some great guys, and learned quite a bit.                                   

We meet the 4th Tuesday of the month from January to November at the Gander Mountain Store in Taylor at 6:30 in the "lodge".   In addition to club business, we often have a guest speaker.   
We schedule about 10 or 11 fishing events a year, both big water, and inland.  At the next month's meeting, we go over who caught what, where, and how.  It's a great way to learn new water and seasonal techniques. 

I fish about 2 to 4 days a week.  Before I joined this club I fished alone more often than not.  Not anymore.

I've fished with them since 1997 and can say they are a great group to fish with for both tournament and nontournament anglers alike. Don't let the "Noncompetitive" part fool you however. Most in this club are hard core bass fisherman. Though they don't have tournaments, they do have events run similar to a tournament were there is some level of competitiveness, all want to do well. That being said, the clubs main focus is to enjoy the sport. They draw partners and review the lake being fished at the meeting prior to an event. During the event they meet for a quick lunch to share results and point those not having success in the right direction. At the next monthly meeting, the anglers that do the best tell the stories of what worked and what didn't. Great group to fish with.

Non-competetive?

I live fairly close to Whitmore Lake.  I figured that I'd hit the lake a few days early, see what was happening and let the group know the day of the event. 

When I got there, I discovered about 5 other club member's boats doing a similar thing.

There are no entry fees, no trophys, no cash prizes, nobody even brags, but .... there is the posting of who caught what, how many, how big, etc. for all to read. 

For this group of decent Bass officianodos that seems to be enough.  Just be the best you can be.

So I guess really, we are non-competetive in a competetive sort of way.  Know what I mean Vern?
