I just got notice that I now have two tournaments on Sanford Lake this year instead of Wixom.  Too many boats for the DNR launch I guess.  I have never been to Sanford Lake.  I would appreciate any basic information you guys could help me with.  I am not asking for your "spots", just basic stuff (water color, boat traffic, how far up can a guy run without killing himself, does it fish like Wixom, etc).  I would be very thankfull for some input.

thank you in advance

blakstr1,

I'm fishing the Midwest Sportsman-Clare division.  I am considering fishing an NBAA Thursday night division on Houghton, Higgins, and Margrethe.  I fished a small club out of Hale last summer on Wed. nights, I don't know about this year.

thank you,

Sanford Lake was home for 15 years -- smallies upriver towards edenville best between curtis rd and m-30 bridges -- excellent morning topwater bite

Largemouths on verity flat -- huge shallow flat, spinnerbaits may/june and my favorite frogs/rats - july/aug

most tourneys are won with a jig/tube dock bite -- no shortage of docks!

I've fished that lake for years. If i'm going fun fishing that is one of my lakes of choice. I also like up river. I use the same things on Sanford as I do Wixom. If they are pulling water stay close to the river channel, If there not venture on to the flats. You can win with largemouth or smallies I've seen it go both ways.

Watch out for the guys in the Sanford lake bass club. They usually dominate them tournaments.

I also have a tournament there this year.

Good luck
Shayne
