Fishing accident

We just had a death here on the Lower Menominee.   Sad, a 49 year old man jumped in the river to try and recover a fishing pole that had fallen in.  Not sure of all of the details.  But, I do know that he was right below the dam on the Marinette, WI side.  Authorities found his body in 10 of water.

The area below dams is incredibly dangerous. Usually a strong undertow. I hate to hear about these things.

I wonder if he was by himself? If so, that would not be good thinking. Was he on shore or in a boat? I did that once in Saginaw Bay, but the water wasn't deep enough to be over my chest though I sank in the mud a couple feet in places. That can be very risky too.
