The poorly written, damaging to Michigan Sport Fishing commercial fishing bills have been introduced again. State House Bills 5801 and 5802, introduced by Rep. Dave Prestin and Rep. Jason Morgan, have been assigned to the House Committee on Natural Resources and Tourism.

This is a tale of two lakes. Intertwined lakes, in Barry County, Michigan. Where somehow the water has gone away. Upper and Lower Crooked Lakes, both near and dear to me, are suffering from the lowest water levels I've seen in the 35+ years I've been fishing them.

Big dreams

What types of vegetation grows around this area?  I see the stuff off from points that are only a few inches long.  I also see the stuff that is touches the surface which can be up to 5 feet long.  Does anyone know what they are called?  Also, what are secondary points?
Thanks,
BD

What's with the news these days on the TV and the radio. Can't find the truth amongst the lies. Some talking head that claims to live their life in a better way, says I have to compromise. But now there's something on the rise. Truth has opened up my eyes. There's no running from your dirty lies. You can't avoid the truth. I'll no longer close my eyes.

Common in Michigan - sand grass (sometimes called skunk grass) the crinkly stuff that goes usually low to the bottom but can get thick, various types of pond weed (or cabbage), Eurasian milfoil that mats up pretty thick on some lakes, coontail - looks kind of like milfoil, but cleaner and clumpier rather than giant mats.

Pond weed can sometimes grow well over 10 feet tall. I've seen it 16 or 17 feet tall on a few lakes.

Milfoil can grow 9 or 10 feet tall, but often collapses on top from its own mass. Milfoil is often real thick shallower than about 7 feet. Can have some great holes underneath the matted top. It is an invasive species that is often the target of mass poisoning.

Help stop invasive spcies. Don't move fish between unconnected bodies of water. Clean, drain and dry your boat before launching on another water body.

most oakland county lakes get sprayed for weed control.  when people move out from the city they do not like weeds in there lake.   we have very few weeds in our lake,  but it comes up each year at our association meetings. people think weeds are bad for a lake.  starting about mid summer you will see small boston whaler type boats with sprayers on them.   also weed harvesters will be out.  they look like combines in the water.   they usually post a sign at the launches to tell you what they are spraying.  Not sure what they did on kent last year but the bottom looked like the moon the last time I was there.

good thing is if you see a suspended weed there will probably be a bass by it..
