Yesterday at the Natural Resources Commission meeting in Lansing, science prevailed thanks to many, many persons who took the time to write in, and especially those who showed up to speak before the Commission on Commissioner Walters’ amendment to close bass fishing on the Inland Waterway and Black Lake from May 1 until the third Saturday in June.

Just before the October Natural Resources Committee meeting on Thursday, October 9, Commissioner John Walters added an amendment to Fisheries Order 206 – “Bass - Closed bass CIR season from May 1 – Friday before the third Saturday in June for Burt, Mullet, Crooked, Pickerel, and Black Lakes and their connecting waters.”

3rd Annual Detroit River Open
Saturday June 20th is the date of the 3rd annual Detroit River Open. This annual event has drawn over 100 boats for the past two years and has become one of the premier events in the mid-west. This year's Detroit River Open is shaping up to be again, one of the biggest events of the season. Anglers from all over will come out to take on these giant smallmouth's and look to capture first place honors in this year's Detroit River Open.

Take off will be out of the St Jeans Ramp and this event will be Michigan waters only. If you'd like to guarantee an early boat number you'll need to register by June 1st. You can register on line or send your Detroit River Open registration form into NBAA. After June 1st boat numbers will be assigned on the order they are received and the field is limited to 150 boats. All NBAA rules will apply.
