Yesterday at the Natural Resources Commission meeting in Lansing, science prevailed thanks to many, many persons who took the time to write in, and especially those who showed up to speak before the Commission on Commissioner Walters’ amendment to close bass fishing on the Inland Waterway and Black Lake from May 1 until the third Saturday in June.

while fishing Wolvarine lake last night we were going along and i see something crusing the surface.  i had time to ask my partner what it looked like.  Green and white head.  a few minutes later it goes by and is a Northern Pike swimming with it's head out of the water.  we saw it 2 more times.  anyone ever see this.  i know it is the full moon and strange things happen.

Yep!
My Dad, Grandpa and I were on Big Platte lake fishing for pike (back in the 80's) and we saw the same thing. Huge head right out of the water, mouth open... just bobbing up and down. Really weird!!!
We could see it was a musky, not a pike.
That image will forever be burned in my noggin.

Northern Bass Bum

Had the same thing happen to my father and me while night fishing for trout on Bird Lake. Had the lantern hangin' and that pike was a-comin' right out of the water, mouth open and everything. Werid!

Bass Fishing... What can I say, I'm hooked!

I love talking about this!!! Been seeing it off and on for years... but nothing like I've seen and heard about on St. Clair. Those muskies do it a lot in the summer. Many, many (some funny) theories.

I think they are looking for me...

Help stop invasive spcies. Don't move fish between unconnected bodies of water. Clean, drain and dry your boat before launching on another water body.

they have to put their head out of the water sometimes...you know since they have bad b.o. they cant stand it themselves

My buddy and I were fishing a small inland lake last summer in Northern Indiana while on a family vacation, we were fishing right at dusk, when we saw the same thing.  Here's this musky cruising the surface with it's head half out of the water.  We threw everything in the boat at it, and it was not intersted in eating anything.  Finally I tie on a huge floating Rapala, and my buddy ties on a jig.  We chase it down with the trolling motor (it didn't seem to be afraid of the boat at all) and my buddy tosses the jig right in front of its mouth and set the hook.  The hookset actually pulled its head out of the water, before coming un-bottoned, and just as his jig popped out, I pitched the Rapala, right into its still open mouth, and whamo, it's on.  Big musky, right at the boat, on a short piece of line.  I smash the free spool button to give it some slack, before horsing it into the boat.  That is to this day my biggest musky.
