Move went fine. The new server is much faster. Which is good!

I'm planning on moving to a new server within the next 2 to 3 weeks. Just a little friendly warning as there might be a few hours of odd behavior when the process starts. I will try to have it done at night or weekend.

Yesterday at the Natural Resources Commission meeting in Lansing, science prevailed thanks to many, many persons who took the time to write in, and especially those who showed up to speak before the Commission on Commissioner Walters’ amendment to close bass fishing on the Inland Waterway and Black Lake from May 1 until the third Saturday in June.

KVD did a segment on the Bass Pros about the King Shad.  He was wacking some big smallmouths with it.  He was fishing it like he does with spinnerbaits...burn it, jerk it, pause it...change up the cadence.  He was using a big fiberglass rod if memory serves...somewhere in the neighborhood of 7'6".  I'm sure he was using flouro but forget what pound test...maybe 12-15?  BTW, two colors of King Shad are on sale at Cabelas...white and I think firetiger...4 bucks off (15.99).

At $22 I'd say at least 15lb test.  Looks like a good bait, but the price has kept me away.  Also, the agressive marketing and situations I've seen it used on shows tells me it's not that special.  I saw that episode with KVD, cool but nothing you can't do with a rattle trap.  All that said I will give them a try this spring.

At what point does a jointed piece of plastic stop being a crankbait and magically becomes a swimbait?  I've often wondered...

There was a pretty good article in Bassmaster magazine last fall about how KVD fishes them.  I have caught some nice bass on the King Shad, but I probably don't throw it as much as I should.  I limit it to lakes that I know don't have a ton of pike in them because for 20+ dollars a lure, I dont want to take any chances.  I don't throw it on less then 17lbs test either.

Waterfoul

I bought one on sale at D&R Sports when KVD and Boyde Ducket were there.  I asked Kevin which one should I HAVE in my box and he walked over to the end cap and put the one I HAVE to have in my boat right in the basket I was carrying.  He throws them on a "swimbait" rod... whatever that is... and uses mono in the same poundages as his spinnerbaits.... 10-12 pound depending on water clarity and the depth he wants the bait to run.

But, even on sale at $14.95 I still haven't thrown it yet... pike are just WAY to agressive this time a year!!!  I'll wait a little while yet.

flippin stick would probably work haha, and color just depends on the water you plan on fishing it in, which would most likely be clear, you could throw greens blues and whites

Hmmm...Sexy Shad or Shore Minnow get my vote...

I don't have a King Shad, but based on what I have been watching and hearing swim bait rods a very long and very heavy.  I agree that a flippin' stick would work fine.  I forget who was on but I watched a TV show that explained why the long rod.  The reason was those fish will hit that bait so hard and fast you need the long sweeping hook set to catch up with the fish.  In other words the long rod helps you pick up slack line.  Personally I would throw it on 15 to 20 lb Fluoro, but I through almost everything on Fluoro.  Why mess with a good thing?

Waterfowl, stop being such and Nancy and throw that sucker!!!
