The poorly written, damaging to Michigan Sport Fishing commercial fishing bills have been introduced again. State House Bills 5801 and 5802, introduced by Rep. Dave Prestin and Rep. Jason Morgan, have been assigned to the House Committee on Natural Resources and Tourism.

This is a tale of two lakes. Intertwined lakes, in Barry County, Michigan. Where somehow the water has gone away. Upper and Lower Crooked Lakes, both near and dear to me, are suffering from the lowest water levels I've seen in the 35+ years I've been fishing them.

Was at BPS shop today, and like every other day I am in there I cannot walk out of there without spending too much money. O'well the wife only stays irritated for a couple of days and then forgets about it until the the credit card bill comes.

With that said I picked up a new trolling moter. Motorguide Pro 70  for $391 (50 inch shaft, 70 lbs of thrust, bow mount). The one I have is on it's way out and I figured this would do me just fine being that it is even bigger then the one I already have. I hope it doesn't bite me in the end being I bought it without the intentioins of getting one today.

Anyone wanna throw a little confidence this way about this motor???

I did notice that BPS had a few other trolling motors on clearance, mostly motorguide. (both bow mount and transom mount.)

Its just my opinion

I think the Motorguide motors are more powerfull than a Minkota with the same rating, but the Minkota motors are quieter than the Motorguide motors.

I have had 4 different Motorguide motors and have not had any problems with them.

Dan

I have had motorguide, but for my money it's a MinnKota that will be on my boat. They support their motors better and they out chew and seem more substantial than a motorguide.  My humble opinion.

You should be fine with that motor, the problem with motorguides in the past were the circuit boards on the higher powered models and the old mounts.  If you have a gator mount get the springs for it if you don't have it as well as a bounce buster and a velcro strap for the motor.  Up here on the great lakes it's worth it to get the extra stuff, your motor will last much longer.  Motorguide service was pretty bad for a while, now it seems to be better since mercury bought them and redisgned some things.  All that being said no matter what brand you run it's good to have a back-up if at all possible.

A bow mount 70 lb thrust trolling motor for $391 is a helluva good deal.

Seeing that I am on my third TM in three years, I'd say buy 2 for that price...

I would definatly have to agree that what you got is a good deal.  I love Minn Kotas.  I think you will be very happy with that purchase And I don't think you wife will be to upset when you compare that 391$ dollar bill to some of the other trolling motors you could of gotten.
