Yesterday at the Natural Resources Commission meeting in Lansing, science prevailed thanks to many, many persons who took the time to write in, and especially those who showed up to speak before the Commission on Commissioner Walters’ amendment to close bass fishing on the Inland Waterway and Black Lake from May 1 until the third Saturday in June.

Hey,hey, hey, Don Fowler from Cadillac and one of my fishing partners is leading the tournament down on Erie after day one. He had 22+ lbs. from the back seat. It sounds like the Michigan team is doing quite well. He didn't know off hand how all the guys did. Two were near 20 lbs. though. Said he only had seven bites all day. Culled two and his biggest was around 5-12. Wind was out of the northeast with about 3 footers. The state team is all fishing the same general area. He of course was pumped. Bass Times interviewed him as well as several of the local papers. Not bad for an old retired state cop.

I have not seen Don for many years but he is a nice guy. Glad to see he is doing so well.

Anthony Adams - As your director I believe in promoting the enjoyment of fishing to all. I encourage good sportsmanship and preserving of natural resources. I strongly encourage all individuals regardless of age, race, or gender to be more involved in the world of fishing

Here is a link with a picture of Don and an article on day one. I have been updating my blog on teardropbass.com as the day rolls along and Don gives me a call. Weighin is at 3:00 and I should get a report first hand of how he did shortly thereafter.

Don is the second Tear Drop Tournament Trail participant (and past director) to fish the Regional.

Hang on to your seats folks this is going down to the wire!! Dandy Don is still in first place after day two down in Vermillion on Lake Erie. He weighed in four smallmouth for 16-15 lbs. today. He went back to his starting spot today and there were only sixteen boats there. Yesterday there had been only six.
He was pulling out his boater as we were talking so I didn't get a chance to hear much from him. He did say that Ray Scott came up to him and introduced himself and gave Don an autographed copy of his book. He also said George Cochran has approach him two days in a row and wanted pictures of he and Don holding some of Don's fish. Don said at the weighin that they were forecasting bad weather for tomorrow and if it came up a cloud and got too bad they were going to have to call the tournament, in which case Don would be the winner.
Ted Prisbe of Harsens Island is in second overall. Ted is on the Michigan team so it sounds like there's a chance the Michigan Team did well again as a group. Yesterday they were in second place team wise, about eight pounds out of first . One of the Michigan team blanked yesterday and another had 4 lbs. Hopefully they had a meeting and clued those guys in. It could be they were the other two nonboaters and had to go where there boater went. There catching fish is really at the mercy of the boater. Don has been lucky both days that his boater has taken his advice and fished Don's spots. Would have to be a pretty dumb boater to have the tournament leader in your boat and not go to his spot, duh. I'll keep searching the net and try and find some more ink on the tournament and Don. Keep your fingers crossed that Don and the Michigan team kick butt tomorrow.
