Whats the deal with Silver buddy?

I made an order through there website 3 weeks ago, and have yet to recieve my buddies. I tried emailing them and it says error, I tried calling no one picks up. I leave messages and never get called back. Are they just ripping people off now, I dont think I will ever buy from them ever again, what a poorly ran business.

I've never ordered from them - I take it you ordered directly from them? I've had similar issues with a couple other small companies like that - usually as spring approaches and the spring surge puts them behind. Maybe that is what is going on?

The deal is that the guy running it had health issues so he was in the hospital for about 6 months. Everyone thought they were out of business and they started taking internet orders only. They got slammed with orders when he gave me permission to post on the BFHP about his new business model. Of course, people like me put in order of 30-40 of them.

He maybe having health issues again, there are a couple similar products out there. One is real close without the hooks, which is good because I replace all the hooks anyways.

I assume he may have health issues again, it took 4-5 weeks ot get mine around Decemeber.

Well, got an email today they shipped my buddies, if the delay is due to health issues I understand and will continue too buy from silver buddy. With the hooks what is the best hook to put on them, and its a bad idea to use split rings I am told. If you cant use split rings I dont know what hooks to get.

All I've ever read and used is with split rings. Then the fish don't get the leverage to throw bait, same reason you put split rings on a Zara spook.

I use Gamakatsku round bends with a red one in the front.

I was told its a bad idea to use split rings because it extends the length of the hooks, and that allows the hooks to tangle on each other often, which will ruin the action and hook-ups. If so what hook would replace the factory's with that I could slip in without the split ring? If this is false thats good news I will just replace the hooks with gamis and split rings.

Once in awhile hook will get tangled, on a 3/4 Buddy I'll use a 4 on each hook. On 1/2 buddy, I'll run Red 4 on front and Bronze 6 on back.

Works fine and I would definitely use split rings,

I take that back silver buddy did not send my order, it was a different Lure company I bought shaky jigheads from called JPR Lures not JP lures. So the wait continues, now I am getting worried, and I still cant contact the company. Does anyone know how to get in contact with somone down there?

I use Mustad Triple grips on mine.  These seem to snag each other and the line less.
I also will use a #4 on the front and a #6 on the back. 
By the way CKev will testify to this because while landing a smallie for me in November he buried a triple grip into his hand.... messy

Did some checking out what is going on. NOT good , the guy that made the silver buddies died  , the family has tried to run the business but has now filed bankrupsy Don't know status of orders placed on the internet  but don't hold your breath.
Sounds like an opportunity to start a new business if you can get the molds and rights to the product.

How unfortunate, it seems if something like that happened they would put something on the website and not take any orders online. They are still taking orders to this day. Looks like it was bad timing on my part, but is nothing compared to what the guys family must be going through. My best wishes to the family.

Sad to hear. I did not know him personally. This has happened a number of times with the small family-run businesses. I remember it was a little confusing after Charlie Nuckols died unfortunately in a fall from his boat in cold water. Safety and family are so important.

Does anyone know where silver buddys co. is located and do they intend on continuing to produce them or are they closing down the plant?

They made them out of their house from when I talked with them. So I'm guessing they will not be in business anymore.

When I ordered my 27 back in November, he was making them at a bench.
