Yesterday at the Natural Resources Commission meeting in Lansing, science prevailed thanks to many, many persons who took the time to write in, and especially those who showed up to speak before the Commission on Commissioner Walters’ amendment to close bass fishing on the Inland Waterway and Black Lake from May 1 until the third Saturday in June.

Which Crooked Lake.  The one by Oden Mi.

Go a month earlier is my advice.
FISH HARD!!!

The crooked lake connected to Burt and Mullet near Indian river.  Actual town is alanson I think.

I'd love to a month earlier, but this is a couples trip and the weather in may is too iffy.   Especially this year!

I may be coming up to fish east GT in mid may.  Will need a plan B for that if the wind is bad.

I have a buddy that has a cottage on Crooked.  Don't have any contact info.  Will probably see him at my first Tuesday event or I know he fishes Thursday mornings.

Crooked will be post spawn. I would drive to charlevoix and fish the northwestern section.

You can try spinnerbaiting the reeds and any rock/gravel all the way around the back end of the lake. It might be a little late but you might get some smallmouth and largemouth bass.

Otherwise, start around Oden Island and look for rocks, gravel bars, ridges and small weedlines. There's also a bunch of walleye and pike, especially on some of the weed lines.

Some of the reed flats in Pickerel can be decent for spinnerbaiting maybe in the morning that time of the year. The breaks off those flats sometimes produce but it is inconsistent.

It will probably be slower and more sparse that time of the year but the bass are still there somewhere anyways.

I like both lakes but I can usually only handle a couple days in a row there before I get bored and want to go somewhere else.

Help stop invasive spcies. Don't move fish between unconnected bodies of water. Clean, drain and dry your boat before launching on another water body.
