This is a tale of two lakes. Intertwined lakes, in Barry County, Michigan. Where somehow the water has gone away. Upper and Lower Crooked Lakes, both near and dear to me, are suffering from the lowest water levels I've seen in the 35+ years I've been fishing them.

How's the bite been?

I got out to Round Lake twice this week and the bite was tougher than the time before. Bass were scattered. Pike were biting pretty good (unfortunately bit off twice). I think we need some rain/wind to stir that lake up. The weeds are mostly dead and brown so not as much oxygen is getting put back into the water. Not sure when I'll get back out but hopefully the bite picks up a little wherever it may be.

I'll post a few more fishing reports when I get my phone back to get the pictures off the phone.

How's the bite been for all of you? Good I hope.

Ive noticed dying weeds as well. I thought the lakes had been treated.  Are you saying this could be natural?
Fishing has been ok.  Not great but not bad either.
So much water.  So many lures.  So little time.

Hit Belleville lake on Saturday morning and bite was consistent if nothing else. Caught a dozen keepers, all but one were smallmouth. Biggest was 16", lost a bigger one at the boat.  Saw more fish than I caught though. They were just cruising.

Hit Middle Straits lake on Sunday morning with mikesmiph. Bite was consistent again, but not hot.  We'd move to a spot, catch a couple then it would taper off. Move again, catch a couple more, taper off.  Rinse repeat from 7a-12:30p.  Biggest LM was 16".  Only caught 4 or 5 keepers between the two of us.  Mike lost a really nice pike at the boat.  Pike on dropshot. Who knew?

It does seem that the bite is off right now. I too noticed brown weeds and thought weed treatment but it seems too early.
Our club fished White lake a few weeks ago and the weights were down. Lots of small fish caught. Seems the heat wave and lack of wind are playing a role.

Round Lake was treated. They killed everything except the some of the sand grass and a few clumps of deeper milfoil. Hard on the fish I think because I can see lots of dogfish gulping air all day. At least they can do that but the other fish can't.

That's what I think too. Water is a little stagnant especially on inland lakes and smaller lakes.

You picked the right lake. Must have lots of weeds.

Belleville is kind of riverine. I think that helps keep the fish more active. Just a theory of mine.
