Yesterday at the Natural Resources Commission meeting in Lansing, science prevailed thanks to many, many persons who took the time to write in, and especially those who showed up to speak before the Commission on Commissioner Walters’ amendment to close bass fishing on the Inland Waterway and Black Lake from May 1 until the third Saturday in June.

BIGSHOW

Lots of pleasure boats out there and hit a double wave which reminded me of the big pale of water at Kalahari waterpark. Totally drenched me,my passenger and my boat and took one of my $500 rod/reels. Big lesson learned. Strap em down. Anyone have any other horror stories on the water.

Manxfishing

Sorry to hear about the rod

Fished Erie allot for Walleye
And in the spring there were allot of ruff days out there
You Just need to slow down

I can remember one day
Going out I passed 3-4 boats coming in that told me i'd never make it out of the bay
After setting up, I was standing in the boat and the waves were taller then me
They would crash over the top of the motor.
Around noon the wind changed and laid down and it ended up being a great day
Found fish, And limited out

Big dreams

I have never fished on big waters yet so I am amazed at the stories of the size of the waves.  I watched an elite event years ago where Edwin Evers won it by traveling a long distance out into one of the great lakes.  The waves were amazing...and I couldn't see a life jacket on him.  I guess one day I will have to check it out...

BIGSHOW

The weird thing about it is that it wasn't that bad out. Minimal waves low wind. Just tons of BIG boat traffic. The waves took me by surprise, well the second one did. I've never gotten that drenched on my boat. The stupid thing is I was ready to dive in for my pole but didn't see it. Thinking back i'm glad I didn't, no life jacket on. I will not go out on a larger lake again without a life jacket on and pole strapped down.

ALWAYS wear your life jacket AND kill switch when the big motor is on - no exceptions. You didn't actually say if you were running or fishing at the time but I like to keep reminding people - I've known 3 persons who are no longer with due to no life jacket and/or kill switch while running just 'fun' fishing.

ALWAYS strap things down when running any big lake or busy lake. If the waves are big or boat traffic is heavy, keep the rods strapped down while fishing too. It happens too fast every time and thinking 'I should have done that' after the fact still leaves the washed out equipment on the bottom of the lake (or worse).

I like all of you. Fishing should be fun AND safe.

Help stop invasive spcies. Don't move fish between unconnected bodies of water. Clean, drain and dry your boat before launching on another water body.

We've had some days out on Lake Huron when running to a spot it was dead calm and hours later it's game on with big waves. Slowing down and learning how to ride the waves is a must. It can be a bit challenging , and you need to pick your days wisely depending on the weather, but be safe and use caution. These Great Lakes produce amazing fish

BIGSHOW

I was running to another spot. Just left 3 rods on the back of the deck by the windshield. Never thought I would get hit with a wave like that. It wasn't that bad. Just alot of BIG boats out near the shipping lane. Took me by surprise. Learned my lesson.

BIGSHOW

3 days later I snapped 2 rods in half when my daughter let go of the screen door. Good thing they have the service program and I get new ones. Bad week...
